Restaurant description

A timeless local haunt in the urban pocket of Dulwich Village, The Crown & Greyhound offers well-honed British pub fare from a classic menu. From the bar, enjoy a host of regionally-sourced ciders and real ales, or relax in the pergola-covered beer garden.

Sumptuous Sunday roasts and juicy, homemade beef burgers pack The Crown & Greyhound menu, while an outdoor barbecue is a welcome addition during the summer months. Signature dishes include tender lamb shoulder, slow-roasted and cooked with roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and served in a rich, red wine gravy.

Inside, stained glass windows invite a kaleidoscope of colours into the traditional dining room. Chunky oak furnishing litters the bar and restaurant, along with exposed brickwork and ornate wooden banquettes.

I went at lunchtime and not being a commercial area, was not very busy. The restaurant was spacious and bright and the server very friendly and attentive without being suffocating. A good menu and wine list and the food was very good. It was my first visit, but I'll certainly go be going back.

I have 2 hair salons in East & West Dulwich and came there with the Manager of the West Dulwich salon We thought it was refurbished really well and sat outside at the back which was lovely We had the squid starters and enjoyed them- He had the fish and chips and got a mouthful of bones at the first 3 mouthfuls!! Terrible- couldn't eat it and sent it back- waiter said some of them are bony!!! That's how they are basically!!! He then had the Seared tuna which was nice but quite bland I had the chicken ceaser salad and it was probably the driest, worst chicken I have been served in a restaurant!! Awful- I did eat it as couldn't b bothered to send back.... and I don't think it was just mine as a woman on the next table had it and it looked just the same.... We didn't order desserts but ordered two cappuccino's- they hardly tasted as if they had any coffee in them and were awful There were lots of staff who knew nothing and don't know how to speak to customers. My comments are- get a good chef and a good. Manager!!! Especially after spending all that money-

I know it was a soft opening but both the food and service were v disappointing. Sunday was very hot and the mains offered were 3 roasts , 1 salad and a vegetarian dish and fish and chips . One of my daughters ordered the roast chicken and it came without the promised yorkshire pudding , pig in blanket and stuffing She queried this and the waiter brought a yorkshire pudding which was dry and over cooked (maybe some time before ) and a pig in blanket . The peas with her lunch were bullet hard. She ate very little of the lunch and was not asked by the waiter if anything was wrong. Two other children had fish and chips and the batter was soggy - maybe cooked too long in advance and left under a hot light . The starters were limited 2 chicken dishes and a smoked salmon dish -I had the smoked salmon and the bread with the salmon was dry. The wine I wanted from the wine list was not available. We were looking forward to visiting the reopened Dog but on this outing will not be using the restaurant

Wow, excellent on every level. Great job at refurbishing an old pub. The new parts are smart and modern with lovely little touches. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was really excellent. I had rump of lamb. It was cooked well and nicely presented.
