Boasting outstanding countryside surroundings which inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and AA Milne’s ‘Winnie the Pooh’, The Crow & Gate serves classic British pub cuisine in a secluded and pastoral part of East Sussex. The cosy log-fire is perfect for winter, and the pretty al fresco beer garden can be enjoyed in the summer.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Crow & Gate menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Crow & Gate ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
Despite its peacefulness, The Crow & Gate is only 7 minutes’ drive from Crowborough Train Station in East Sussex.

We had roast pork, which was delicious and the vegetables were really good. Gravy was served separately and the presentation was also very good. It was great value for money and we have already booked to go again.

There was a party of four of us. My wife ordered fish in batter. It was undercooked so we sent it back. Eventually a replacement fish in batter was produced, but it was only half the size of the original and was mostly batter. By the time she started her dinner, the rest of us had finished ours. I expected our bill to be adjusted accordingly but it was not. This failure on behalf of the restaurant cook spoilt our meal and we will think long and hard about coming to the Crow and Gate again.
