Restaurant description
Surrounded by the picturesque countryside, particularly Brocket Park, The Crooked Chimney was previously a charming farmhouse with a distinguishing crooked chimney atop its roof, which remains. Its pastoral heart continues though, through traditional British pub meals, its welcoming hearth-fire and the appealing oak and cobbled brick design.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Crooked Chimney menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Crooked Chimney ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
In the village of Lemsford, The Crooked Chimney is just 7 minutes’ drive from Welwyn Garden City Train Station.

It's an attractive pub on a main countryside road to which we have been several times before and always been pleased that we chose to go there. However, on this occasion, the service was extremely slow even though it was not a very busy lunchtime service. There was only one waitress to service the whole restaurant. A family group on the next table to us and who had arrived before us complained about the time they had to wait for their meals and we waited for approximately 35 minutes for ours after ordering. The food was hot and of good quality, when it finally arrived! I would be loathe to recommend others to vist unless I was able to say that the service would be better than we experienced at 13.15 on 30.10.2019

We had an early booking of 11.30am, and although we were the first customers we had to wait an hour for our food, which was only sandwiches!! The restaurant was fully booked with 3 very large parties, which arrived after us. A group of 3 people walked out disgusted with the food and the long wait. We heard the conversation of the large party sitting behind us having a vote whether to leave and not have the meal as they had waited so long. Our food was not good nor was it very warm. There was only two waitresses serving and I imagine not enough staff in the kitchen to accommodate the large amount of customers. As it was just pre booked customers the Restaurant knew how many diners they were expecting and should have arranged enough staff to cover. In the past I have been to the Crooked Chimney on quite a few occasions, but over the last year the food and service has deteriorated so much that I will not be going to this venue in the future, which is a shame because it is a lovely old building.

2nd visit in 9 days. We went first for a lunch time meal with friends, the reception and service was excellent, really made us welcome. There was a good choice on the menu, with piazza's, burgers, traditional favourites and also a la carte on offer as well as the lunch time three course choice. Our choices were well presented, ample portions and freshly cooked with a good selection of vegetables included in the price. Overall we were all very satisfied with everything, and would we go back, Yes, and we did, this time with family on our recommendation. This time we went in the evening and everything was as good as the first visit and I was relieved the family was very impressed as well. Really good value for money. Although it would need a drive to get there it is in a good location with plenty of parking and well worth the effort, but book up first as it is very popular.
