Housed in a building dating back to 1776, The Cowper Arms is a restored country pub & restaurant serving a seasonal menu of unfussy British food. With a large beer garden for al fresco dining outside, and wooden ceiling beams, rustic furniture & fireplaces inside, this pub is a cosy place to enjoy a hearty homemade meal.

Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Cowper Arms menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.

A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Cowper Arms cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.

The Cowper Arms in Letty Green is a 7-minute drive from Hertford North Rail Station.

Did not like it here, I booked on line and there was a option, I chose Sunday roast for two. We were show to our table in a dimley lit area next to store room (we are two women of a certain age). Menus put on table and that was it - no explanation to how they operate or who was our waitress or if a waitress would be with us soon???? 5min plus later I decided to go to bar to order (assuming that’s what happens) only to be told to sit back down a waitress will come take order- couple mins later she did. However my friend (on her 72 birthday treat) ordered roast chicken, I roast pork - to be told it was belly pork - I have never been anywhere for a roast diner that the meat wasn’t carved slices of sold meat. So in annoyance had roast chicken that was still on bone which was ok as half a chicken on bone goes but again we expected slices of chicken. No carrots but parsnips (terrible selection in taste in root veg as not everyone likes parsnip or wilted spinach. I ate the chicken, my friend could only eat the breast - if the Yorkshire wasn’t so big maybe a bigger variety of veg could have been on plate.
I was not please with the service, there wasn’t any. I had to take my one and only Pepsi back because ther was no gas in the carbonated water in the mix with the Pepsi syrup. I was flat and no fizz at all and when I said to girl at till her reply was ‘can you wait a min, I’m in the middle of this??’ I was now livid, said Don’t bother I’m leaving, she did not say anything so left the drink on bar I went back to table got my bag ( friend was so already set to leave with disgust) went to pay, got manager this time - just pointed out that my cola - that was STILL sitting on bar where I left it, she did not apologise in fact she just said ‘I don’t know why, it’s a set mix!’ However if you were a manager and valued your customers then you would not dismiss my complaint. As a manager she should have at least said it may be the gas that had gone. She took cost of coke off bill

I realy liked the feel of the place when I walked in and everything was really good except for the quality of the food which was a bit below what I would expect. All roasts were overcooked, Yorkshires looked the part but were hard and not very nice at all and potatoes were odd. I would go back because the experience was good and I would give them a second chance.

Main dish of fishcakes was not warm enough. Dining room infested with wasps. Rubbish strewn all over the steps near the dining table. Slow delivery of beer. Slow to get the bill.

The restaurant was quiet. The decor was lovely and staff attentive.the four of us had main courses - linguine , fish cakes and sticky chicken. All meals were delicious.

Service was pleasant, with a choice of seating on arrival. Seating comfortable and lighting adequate. Menu choice is varied and food was cooked and presented well. I particularly liked the pea & ham soup, very tasty. The sweets were liked by my guests. Having finished our meals, the table was cleared of used crockery but we were not encouraged to leave and were able to sit and continue our conversation until we were ready to go. The car park is large and well lit, and the pub has a good choice of beer.

A hidden gem . A good menu made it very hard to choose what to have. We were a large group but service was good . No complaints.

Welcoming, friendly venue. Although not on a main thoroughfare, it was still easy to find. The lunch booking was arranged as a reunion and the no-pressure approach from the staff to order and, at the end of the meal, to leave the table was absolutely perfect. We will use 'The Cowper Arms' again when we plan to meet up. It was ideal.
