Generally speaking very good. I missed the beef duo as ir seems is offered only at weekends, and some salad in the kids burger and not only chips. Jacobs Creek white wine delicious.

Faced with the famous wildlife reserve, Southampton Commons, The Cowherds is situated next to a pretty wild haven, and also near central Southampton and the university. The charming rustic design reflects the traditional British pub menu, and the al fresco beer garden has beautiful views over the Commons.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Cowherds menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Cowherds ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Cowherds is only a 6-minute drive from Southampton Central Railway Station.

I entertained some relatives from America, knowing that the meals would be very good, having dine often in your restuarant when in Southampton. We all enjoyed our time and the food which was very good.

Ou favourite restaurant, amazing food especially the mushroom starter, chicken and thyme pie and apple pie pudding. Excellent menu choice and friendly and very helpful staff with a lovely relaxing atmosphere.
Shame we live in Gloucester and the Cowherds is in Southampton, but we always come once a year or more if we can.

.Tez our waiter is excellent as we go fairly often he knows our preferences and is always helpful and cheerful..However there are times when we have waited an hour to be served,I realize its a very popular pub especially in the summer.I think it would help to have more staff.
The food is excellent ,my favorite is the Fish and Chips.

Nice and warm inside.. it was a very cold night outside! Good sized room not too close together. Didn't use the toilets so can't comment. Now to the reason we went... food! Service quick and young girl a bit quiet but friendly enough and asked if everything was ok without keep coming back. Starters for our group of 4 were varied, but everyone enjoyed with good quantity... mine was a bit large (dough sticks) so I shared them, the dips were delicious. I had chicken pie and veg. Lovely pie and fresh veg, super onion mash! My partner had steak.. his comments were that the steak must of been cooked first then other items added to plate because the steak was cold , chips ect hot. He said it was well cooked but thought it was a bit pricey. Puddings were served. My Crete brûlée was gorgeous and lovely home biscuits. My partners cheese board had a good selection but he thought one more cracker would of been perfect! All in all, we all enjoyed our dinner out and would go again.

Despite being a very busy Sunday we were welcomed and ushered to our table.
When the food arrived it was excellent quality, with only one problem that od the parsnips being 'woody'

Waitress needs to be much more animated and welcoming. Lack of choice for vegetarian and what was on offer was loaded with basil. Yuk!

The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We had chosen the restaurant because of its decor and location but we had never eaten there before. I had booked a table for early Sunday evening but unfortunately when we sat down we were told that the kitchen had run out of Sunday roast option, a little disappointing as most of our party would have ordered this option. All other dishes were available and cooked quite nicely.
