Overall setting is fantastic, overlooking the River Teign. Inside, a modern but calm interior with a good selection of drinks and food. Our second visit. The food was excellent while the service was a little slow, however this gave us the opportunity to chat between courses and given it was Sunday afternoon we were in no rush! The air conditioning in the dining area was very welcome on what was quite a hot summer's day. We will return!

after already visiting combe cellars several times, i chose to go here on a monday afternoon for my birthday lunch. there was only me and my partner and when we arrived it didn't seem to busy, we sat down and ordered drinks.. 20 minutes later we finally got our drinks and ordered our food, we were waiting about an hour just for our main courses as we didn't order starters, i ordered steak medium rare and my partner ordered a buger completely plain, the mains eventually came out and the burger was cold with everything still in it and my steak was cooked more to well done, cold and so was my peppercorn sauce. it appeared that there was only 1 waitress and she said 'we were expecting a quiet day after mother's day' i was going to send my steak back but the waitress was no where to be seen, when she did finally come over she asked if it was okay and i said how it was cold and she almost questioned me as if i was lying. she took the peppercorn sauce and got a new one, even though by this time i had eaten my chips and i said not to worry about the steak because i wasn't waiting another hour for it to come out. but i asked for a glass of tap water and she said she would get it straight away.. half an hour later our plates still hadn't been cleared, and was still waiting for the water. e and my partner were planning to get dessert but because it took so long just for a main we decided against it. when we went to pay the waitress said to us as another table was leaving 'sorry they were here before it became busy, we only had two tables booked in' but we were one of those tables that booked. we left feeling very negative about the restaurant as our table was booked for 1.30 and we had been there for 2 and a half hours and only had a main which was cold and not to the right standard. considering it was a special occasion and it was my birthday we chose to go for a little lunch and planned to do stuff after as anyone would, but seems we were here for so long it ruined all plans

    Staff were excellent. Surroundings excellent.

Food had some strange combinations- e.g. Sweet waffle with duck. Pastry on the pie quite hard and not that tasty. Soggy bread with mushroom starter.

Would have preferred less off the wall choices for Mother's Day.

This is one of our favourite restaurants. However, the service was a little slow. The location of the restaurant made up for the time taken for food to arrive. Food was well cooked hot and beautifully presented. Overall a very pleasant Sunday Lunch.
