Amazing food and service, top quality, even allowed my father to come in through a side door to avoid some small steps. Will definitely visit here again!

One of Exeter’s longest-standing and most renowned restaurants, The Conservatory building dates back to 1600, and boasts an original, restored Tudor panel wall in the dining room. The menu fuses using classic English cuisine with an innovative Mediterranean influence, resulting in imaginative, modern European fare.

Seared scallops with blood orange and bok choi and Cornish crab arancini with apple salsa exemplify the restaurant’s quirky take on favourite dishes. Hearty dishes such as braised blade of beef with swede and smoked cheddar gratin are just as popular.

Iced peanut butter parfait with dark chocolate ganache and banana curd is a must-try dessert on The Conservatory menu. Early bird and express lunch menus are readily available, alongside a substantial wine list. Award-winning, local organic ales can also be sipped alongside the food.

True to its name, The Conservatory in Exeter boasts light and airy surroundings, creating a bright, relaxed setting. With Exeter Cathedral on its doorstep, The Conservatory is found just a 6-minute walk away from Exeter Train Station.

The food was amazing. The duck which was the main course, was beautifully cooked, together with roasted vegetables. I had cheesecake for dessert but others had crème brulee both of which were superb. The only aspect that I was a little disappointed in was that the service was very slow. We waited over 30 mins before we were served in terms of taking our orders. The location of the restaurant is very private but is not disabled friendly. Nevertheless, it didn't stop us and we managed.

The Conservatory is my favourite restaurant in Exeter and always a delight. The food is outstanding and so is the service. They have two-course deals at lunchtime and in the early evening which makes it well worth the money. Will always recommend!

Overall the food was exceptional. Sadly the service left little to be desired and this was not down to the waitress inability but I believe it was down to a lack of staff. When the bread came through in the bowl, there were no side plates, a table next to us had to ask for the plates themselves. Having just 2 waitresses running the restaurant which was nearly full, I think was a let down. But lets not take it away from them, they tried I just think maybe things so be looked at when it comes to food vs service. That question you get asked, is everything ok? Yes thanks. I felt as though it was a mission to ask, very little warmth in the approach from the staff.

Everything was perfect, and the early dinner menu had lots of great choice. The gnocchi with purple sprouting broccoli was gorgeous.
