In the Good Pub Guide's Top 10 Pubs in the Country, The Cock Hemingford Grey is a wonderfully inviting spot with crackling fires and rustic furnishings, beside the Great Ouse river. A great selection of British and European recipes are served, along with dedicated gluten-free and dairy-free menus, and local beers.

Only the best seasonal ingredients go into The Cock Hemingford Grey menu, locally sourced where possible. Premium starters include venison carpaccio with baby beetroot, blueberry purée and parmesan, and the vegetarian pea and broad bean risotto. Classic British flavours feature for mains, such as succulent roast pork belly with crackling, apple sauce and gravy, and the signature homemade sausage selections, served with horseradish and mustard mash and your choice of sauces. Sunday roasts are also served, with a range of succulent meats.

From the bar, there is a huge whisky selection, as well as a range of beers and ales from local breweries, and wines from the French Languedoc-Roussillon region. Puddings at The Cock Hemingford Grey Huntingdon include Pimm’s and raspberry crème brûlée with orange and vanilla shortbread, and a great British cheeseboard.

Showcasing the very best in local produce and British dining, The Cock Hemingford Grey is 12 minutes' drive from Huntingdon Rail Station.

Delicious meal with great service. My hake was perfectly cooked and the accompanying risotto outstanding

I took a friend for lunch and as usual we were not disappointed! Top notch food and top notch service! I even scored husband points when the waitress kindly arranged for my left over 'infamous pork crackling' to be wrapped so I could take him some home!! Win/win!

Disappointing food compared with a few years ago

Excellent food. Very good vegetarian options for my husband. I especially enjoyed the prawn consommé and sea bream Caesar salad. Only disappointment were the Parmesan fritters is the salad, which were soggy and tasteless. His mushroom spring roll was also excellent. Very good wine. Unfortunately our first choice red was unavailable, we were told that's because it's popular. Maybe stock more?

Only one word seems to fit the occasion - RUBBISH! We arrived for the booking some 20 minutes early and decided to have a drink in the bar while we waited for a table. We then sat waiting, and waiting, and waiting. and finally paid for the drinks and left half-hour after our supposed booking at 18:30. The staff seemed more interested in chatting to friends who were obviously dining that evening. Just as a clue to what's wrong with The Cock, we went to an alternative restaurant, unbooked, and were eating within 15 minutes of arrival. Now that's service - something for The Cock to take as an example. Suffice it to say we would not use The Cock again - can't say eat, because we never got that far!
