We are sorry to say that our visit for lunch was a little disappointing and not up to the usual standard we have previously encountered. Two of the three main courses were tepid and the chips were not as good as on other occasions. The apple and pear crumble with custard proved a hit, but the parkin dessert was very dry and the chocolate torte stuck to the spoon.

First class venue, lovely food, superb outlook but a little difficult to find- a map would help.

On Monday 14th December we had a most pleasant lunch, excellent food, excellent service. Although two of our party had not been able to join us, which meant we were only three, it was a splendid occasion. Absolutely no complaints! However our experience on Thursday 17th was a complete disappointment. Two of our party ordered grouse, one ordered the risotto. A few minutes later the waitress informed us that there was no risotto. Shortly after she returned to say the grouse also was not available. So we had to start again. This was not good news. However choices were made. Scampi and chips - not that inspiring and when it arrived it could have been of better quality. The oxtail was 'acceptable'. The substitute of fish pie instead of grouse for our other guest was dire. I had also ordered the fish pie (original order) as it had been excellent on a previous visit. Certainly very poor on this occasion. What had happened? Was it the chef's day off... A very embarrassing occasion as we had praised the restaurant so highly, based on EVERY previous experience. Even the delightful chocolate truffle and orange dessert so much enjoyed on Monday was not of the same quality. The Lovers' chips were lukewarm and again not of the usual standard.
