All three of us really enjoyed our meal. Lasagne, beef pie and fish and chips were all excellent. Triple-cooked chips are scrumptious. The friendly and efficient service was excellent. Everything about our experience was thoroughly enjoyable: we'll revisit often.

Headed by an award-winning chef and enjoying mentions in The Good Food Guide, The Chequers at Burcot showcases elegant British fine dining dishes. Dine in the 400-year-old inn surrounded by gnarled beams and crackling open fires.

With a focus on ethically sourced produce, The Chequers menu features produce from independent local butchers, trusted farmers, and fruits, vegetables and herbs from local organic allotments. Enjoy artfully presented creations like slow-cooked duck leg with peas and bacon, mackerel pate with lemon and black pepper salad, or rich chocolate mousse with Nutella ice cream.

An extensively researched wine list at Chequers restaurant has seen proprietor Steve travel across Europe to find some of the finest suppliers and importers. An impressive list of smooth cask ales maintains Chequers’ warm, village pub hospitality.

Established in 2006, The Chequers has emerged as a gourmet destination within the lush Oxfordshire countryside. Central Abingdon is an 11-minute drive away.

The Tuesday steak special at The Chequers Burcot is a real delight at a bargain price (under £40), we are regulars for this offer. You receive 2 delicious large ribeye steaks - cooked to your requirements, triple cooked chips, grilled tomato, rocket and onion garnish, with peppercorn sauce and homemade relish. It is a substantial mains and we don't require starters or desserts . The offer includes a nice bottle of house red shared between 2 diners. A highly recommended and delicious meal. The meal is enhanced by the restaurant and staff, it can be a romantic and characterful place to dine and service is excellent.

The Tuesday steak special at The Chequers is a must for everyone. The ribeye steaks are large, tender, flavourful and cooked to perfection. The triple cooked chips, , tomato, garnish and chutney provide delicious accompaniments. Served with a bottle of good house wine for £39.50 for two, this meal presents excellent value for money. One of the best offers around !

Probably the best Sunday lunch I can remember eating for a long time, glad I didn't have a starter as the main was substantial (but not too big), excellently cooked and presented and service was great.
