Excellent service from the staff. We were a big booking and they went above and beyond for all of us.

Upholstered with stone, oak and a hearth fire, The Captain’s Wife near Cardiff represents a vintage British pub with traditional cuisine. Its location near Penarth boasts unparalleled views of the Bristol Channel from the beer garden, suggesting its heritage of housing fishermen.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Captain’s Wife menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Captain’s Wife ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings at this Sully gastropub include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Captain’s Wife is merely 9 minutes from Penarth in the car, or 20 minutes from Cardiff.

Food and setting excellent; staff friendly and helpful despite being under-staffed - presumably a management issue: though a weekday it was busy and only one person was staffing the bar, taking food orders, mixing drinks and dealing with bills; only one waitress visible. Warned of long wait for food, though actually it wasn';t as bad as predicted. However, I would only lunch here if I have a long period of leisure in which to enjoy it.

We haven't been to the Captains Wife for a while because we hadn't been particularly impressed.
What a difference. The staff were really accommodating and friendly. The food was really nice, as were the drinks, with a choice of gins. I had the salmon, which was very nice. Will definitely be coming back

Good service and tasty food. The starters are very well presented and we all had steaks-each one was cooked perfectly-love the pepper sauce. I wasn't too keen on my pudding-Melba mess,it could have been better presented possibly in a glass rather than on a plate.

Lovely outdoor area where we ate as it was fine with beautiful sea view. Food was excellent when it came though service was rather slow. Staff very pleasant.

Easy to book on line and the table was ready when we arrived. Pleasant staff with a knowledge of the menu served us and we didn't have too long to wait for the meal to arrive. The wine recommended was lovely and the food was really nice. We weren't rushed and had a very pleasant evening.
