Restaurant description

At the heart of the picturesque village of Ditchling inside the South Downs National Park, The Bull Ditchling is a stunning 16th-century pub serving modern British flavours. Outside there is a tranquil beer garden with fruit trees and a kitchen garden, while inside the bar serves beers from the pub's very own brewery.

The Bull Ditchling menu crafts beautifully presented dishes that offer bold, modern takes on long standing British favourites, all using ingredients from the pub's own kitchen garden. Savour delicous small plates to start followed by mains which feature exotic international influences.

Pub classics are also served at The Bull Ditchling in Hassocks. On Sundays, enjoy hearty roast dinners with a generous wine list, or try the beers from the pub's own brewery.

The pub is dog friendly however they are not permitted in the bookable areas. Also offering children's menus, The Bull Ditchling is a charming, family-friendly slice of pub tradition with polished modern updates. Hassocks Rail Station is just a 5-minute drive away.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

It was fantastic, the waitress for our table was lovely and accommodating, the pub/restaurant is a perfect setting and the fact there are three quite different areas to dine in means there would be a spot to suit all tastes and desires. We ordered roast beefs at 5pm and were worried as it was later on in the day they wouldn’t be so good. We were wrong, one of the best roast beefs I’ve ever had, tender, melt in the mouth, delicious leek cheese and the roast potatoes were fab too. I liked the portion size, the plate wasn’t loaded, so often with roasts I feel stuffed and uncomfortable after. Really wanted to try one of their delicious desserts but didn’t this time. A good selection of wines, beer etc. There is a lovely kitchen garden out back and a final detail was the posters around to remind to wash hands etc but they are colourful and cheerful. I cannot wait to go back!

We ordered the roast - pork and lamb dishes. Vegetables were all very nice but the meat was disappointing (overcooked). The apple sauce and mint sauce didn’t materialise.

Very good as always, staff were excellent, and considering all the COVID restrictions, a very pleasant meal all round.

Very enjoyable lunch to celebrate our 60th Wedding Anniversary, having had our Reception at The Bull 60 years ago , my how the pub has changed since then !! The rib eye steak was excellent,as were all the other dishes. If Ditchling was nearer to Eastbourne we would be more frequent visitors

Friendly staff, cosy outdoor seating area, with the bonus of keeping warm by the log fires! Also the pizzas were delicious, I had the goats cheese and caramelised onion... and will be coming back soon to have it again.

First time here in years, well over 10 before the refurbishment. Very impressed indeed, the staff were really friendly, engaging and always on hand. The cider was lovely on a sunny afternoon and the food really good, I had the pork belly with rosti potato which was gorgeous, wife had the fish again very nice and the veg was very fresh and cooked perfectly, my wee boy had his usual burger but he said with much embarrassment to the waitress that it was one of the best he’d had. For the quality of food we found it priced very well. It’s very tastefully decorated and I love the cantilever leather chairs. I had a few odd looks as I examined and took pictures of them, but I have plans. We sat in the back bar which was nice and quiet with really chilled music at a respectable level, refreshing to hear some old school classic massive attack instead of some random modern playlist nonsense. Gorgeous countryside for walks and the perfect end. Will not leave it so long for a return visit.
