We enjoyed a great Sunday roast at the Blue Anchor. The best I've ever had!
08 January 2019
A contemporary gastro pub buried deep in the Surrey countryside, The Blue Anchor serves modern British fare with a Mediterranean stamp. The ever-changing menu includes comforting Sunday roasts, as well as a host of freshly-muddled cocktails.
Sweet and meaty lobster cooked in a creamy mustard sauce leads the seafood dishes on The Blue Anchor menu, while succulent but crispy pork belly is served straight from the stove, braised in marmalade and served with roasted pine nuts and green beans. Cleansing creations such as Italian peach ice cream served with a raspberry and spiced plum compote heads the desserts, along with a rich, Belgian white chocolate brûlée.
Swathed in black and caramel hues, the dining room is peppered with nautical relics and white-wash panelling. Large bay windows embrace the natural light, while dimpled leather sofas litter the bar area.
Just a 4-minute drive from Tadworth Rail Station, The Blue Anchor in Surrey is a stone’s throw away from a network of country walks and trails.

Good enjoyable food but the acoustics were poor so conversation was difficult.

Very helpful staff. Wonderful manager who offered us two free drinks instead of one! Shabby chic style pub with great ambience and a lovely roast dinner! Definitely returning!!??????????

Starters were very disappointing. The fried Brie was unpleasant, very hard outside and almost no Brie inside. The impression was it had been cooked twice. 2 others in our party had the mushrooms and they too were very disappointed with the dish. For the main 2 had fillet steak, both steaks were overlooked and tasteless. It was served with soggy triple cooked chips. If that had been the first time I order triple cooked chips, I would never order again. 2 others in the part had the rack of lamb which they loved. The lemon tart tasted like bitter cornflour, we all tried a small piece and agreed it was not very nice. When the waitress took the desert plates she asked if there was something wrong with it and I said 'yes, it's not nice'. No other comment and it was still on the invoice. I paid the bill and let a £10 tip because it's not the waitresses fault. We've been there before and had excellent meals but last nights experience has put us all off. Sorry Blue Anchor, if I didn't know better I'd think the chef failed to turn up. On the adjacent table next to us, other diners were also surprised by the poor quality.

Not bad, Easter menu seemed more expensive than usual lunchtime fare. We thought £7 for a glass of house white was too expensive. We were then presented with a bill for a different table which was £60 more expensive than ours?

We had onion soup which my husband said was very nice, I had the breaded brie which I thought had a too crisp coating but chutney very nice. Roast lamb was tender also the roast pork, vegetables were a little under cooked as far as we were concerned by that is purely due to taste. Overall an enjoyable lunch with good service and nice ambience. Lovely to see a real fire.

A LOVELY FIND! STAFF WERE INCRDIBLY ATTENTIVE AND FRIENDLY AND FOOD WAS AMAZING, WITH A HUGE MENU OF OPTIONS. ONLY PROBLEM WAS, WE WERE COLD, AND SEEMED A SHAME THAT THE LOG BURNERS WEREN'T BEING USED AS THAT WOULD HAVE ADDED TO THE ATMOSPHERE.
