A rustic waterside village pub with a decked terrace for al fresco dining, The Black Horse – Milton Keynes serves a menu of simple but wholesome British pub food. With cushioned seats, red walls & windows overlooking the Grand Union Canal, this pub is a country-style retreat in the historic village of Great Lindford.

Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Black Horse menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.

A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Black Horse – Milton Keynes cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.

The Black Horse in Buckinghamshire is a 6-minute drive from Wolverton Rail Station.

Good relaxed atmosphere with interesting menu choices. Staff were attentive but not overly pushy. We had an enjoyable evening meeting old friends.

Good food. Tho lamb was very fatty and hard to cut even with a steak knife. Table not very comfortable for my husband who was in a wheelchair.

Lovely old pub, I've cycled past it many times on the canal but this was the first visit for a meal. By taxi this time! Very nice food and well presented, also we were
well served, everything well timed etc.

Always a pleasure to dine at the Black Horse, Milton Keynes. Lovely food and 1st class service from a lovely, attentive waitress

I had the 'Sticky Chicken'. Some interesting and unusual things added to the dish. It was quite nice with a bit of a kick from the chilli. However, I felt the chicken was overcooked. It was tough and the well worn dining knife I had didn't cope well with it. I had to shred it with my fork.
My husband had the alleged 28 day hung rump steak. He ordered it medium rare, but, it was rare to blue. Also, I doubt very much that meat had been hung for 28 days, it was too 'fresh' looking.
There was nothing on the desert menu that grabbed our fancy, which was a shame because we love our deserts, and it was our Anniversary dinner, so a bit disappointed.
The service was okay, for a busy Friday night and at least we were seated away from screaming kids.
    Stars for other ratings below:
Food: over cooked chicken, under cooked steak, small portions
    Drinks: we only had coke
    Ambiance: Really noisy
Service: Okay for a Friday night
    Booking experience: okay
Value: a bit pricey for what we had
Location: Lovely if you want to sit outside

Good selection of food though a little more challenging for my vegetarian friend. Food reasonable priced and nicely presented. Staff friendly and helpful and although the restaurant was busy, waiting times were very acceptable.

We choose to bring family here based on the menue we had in April, which we both liked. The new menue is mostly deep fried food with chips. My own choice for the main did avoid the fried options, a chicken short crust pie and mash, and that is what it was. So over all a bit ordanary on the food side. Drinks including the coffees was good, and servis was on time and friendly .

Really like this pub restaurant from several previous visits but was a bit disappointed this visit.
Arrived for our pre-booked table which was unfortunately at the bottom of the busy stairs to outside and right underneath a music speaker which was really loud. We asked if we could move to another table and were advised the others were all booked (even though they were clearly empty and no one arrived for at least an hour after we sat down).
The starter arrived minus its katsu sauce which made the dish very bland and dry. When we told the waitress she just said "oh dear".
Our main dishes were walked straight past us and offered to another table who declined them - then they were marched back past us, taken back to the kitchen before coming back to us. Hence they were warm, not hot. They staff really weren't bothered.
The food was nice but the whole experience was marred by poor service.
    Just disappointing really :(
