We eat here all the time. Sunday roasts are the best. This time my husbands apple pie was like warm with not much custard. They were very busy so we put it down to that.

Off the beaten track, The Black Horse Brentwood serves time-honoured favourites and pub classics from a hearty British menu. Framed by a white-picket fence and black and white timber, the dining room is kept warm by a host of open fireplaces, and features studded leather banquettes, chunky oak beams and a pretty courtyard for al fresco dining.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Black Horse menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Black Horse ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Black Horse in Pilgrims Hatch is a 7-minute drive away from Weald Country Park, and a 5-minute drive from Brentwood High Street.

Service very good, though restaurant was very quiet. Ordered Wagyu burger for main course, very disappointed to be see it served in ciabatta bread, not burger bap. When I questioned the waitress, she said 'oh yeah sorry, we haven't got any'! Would have been nice to be told at time of order, rather than hoping to 'get away with it". Expected a £14 burger to at least be served properly. The three of us had three courses, which were ok, but no more than that. May have been better if busy?

Seems to have gone down in quality these past few months.
The roast beef is of poor quality and is grisly and tough and veg selection i is lacklustre. Also meals have come out lukewarm.sorry about this but in the past we have always loved a Sunday Roast so we feel a bit let down.

Absolutely awful. Completely ruined my sons 21st birthday meal .. waited over an hour to be sested and they had run out of most dishes on the menu

After being shown to our table by another member of staff our waitress came over and we had to point out to her that four out of the eight knives laid out on our table were dirty.
The service was very slow even though it was not overly busy.
We have been to the Black Horse before on may occasions and have been very happy

Always had a very enjoyable meal at the Black Horse, using it several times a month

Service was too quick between courses. We felt rushed. It was obvious that our mains were ready before we'd finished our starters. Therefore my steak was kept warm, burnt on the outside and chewy to eat (fillet). Really not worth £21.50!! Everything else was really good.
