Unfortunately we had a very poor experience at The balcony Bar & Brasserie in Birmingham. We waited almost 40mins to receive our afternoon tea which was booked for a friends birthday some months ago and reconfirmed on the morning of our visit and that was only after I had chased it with a member of staff. When it arrived there wasn't much to the afternoon tea(3 half rolls, one scone and 3 tiny cakes. An example is the Battenburg slice which was cut in half(one slice between us) I have paid much less and had more quantity in the afternoon tea else where. We were never asked if we would like more tea or if everything was ok.We did speak to staff at the end who removed the service charge and Prosecco charge from the final bill but would have paid the full amount had everything been good.

went for a 60th birthday celebration .was told not to go by other discontented customers.didnt believe, wish i had took notice.Shown to table fine ordered drink fine.then it was a case of actually attractingsomeones attention.Had sharing starters no side plate to put on had to put on napkin.Presentation of dishes much to be desired.Tip was included in final bill.
When bill comes to over £100 for 2 of you i would expect far better service and food quality.
I wish i had listened to others as thete are far better places in birmingham. There was only 3 other tables occupied and it was 1pm......says it all.....

We have been to he Balcony several times. The experience has always been a positive one. We take friends and family there when they come to visit from anywhere around the country or from abroad. Yesterday we wanted to have an afternoon tea with our niece to celebrate her 30th birthday and, frankly, it was quite disappointing. The bread was dry and felt old or out of a fridge and we found ourselves leaving some on the plate. We spent £151 pounds with drinks for a very substandard afternoon tea. We did not want to complain as we did not want to spoil her day.

Terrible service. Ordered afternoon tea. We were not given plates to eat it with. We were not offered a tea top up. It was ridiculously expensive for what it was- 22 pounds each for a pretty mediocre tea any greasy spoon could have procured. The teapot the food was served on was dusty. The cakes were clearly not homemade but bought in. The sandwiches had clearly been kept made in the fridge so they were cold and hard. The cake to sandwich ratio was off. We were so disappointed as we thought this would be a real treat.

Very disappointing. Attractive venue but sandwiches dreadful (and not the finger sandwiches expected with Afternoon Tea), one tiny scone each with small jar of jam, and minute pot of tea. The service was very poor - we had to call a waiter/waitress on several occasions - even to order the food.

My wife and I had Afternoon Tea here on our 20th Wedding Anniversary. It was absolutely superb - we are both vegetarian and my wife is also gluten intolerant so it can be a challenge finding somewhere to accommodate. We were amazed and impressed by the imaginative and plentiful food provided!

Fantastic place to go...food was perfect and staff were so friendly and attentive. We were looked after through our whole experience and we are already planning when we can go back. Really relaxing atmosphere also. The watercress soup was delicious as was our main and sticky toffee pudding was the best I have ever had. Portion sizes are spot on and menu choice is also just right. Joseph, our main waiter was so friendly and helpful. Although we were also looked after by other staff members, making sure we had drinks and we're enjoying our experience. Thank you to everyone for a lovely lunch date ?? see you soon!
