Part of the Good Beer Guide’s Pub Group of the Year 2013, Brunning and Price, The Armoury is a picturesque Georgian-style pub and restaurant in Shrewsbury. A former armoury that was moved after the First World War, tall sash windows and floor-to-ceiling bookcases characterise the warm, family-friendly interior.

Pulled pork, sage and apple rillette is joined on the Armoury menu by a trio of duck, featuring maple-glazed breast, confit leg and duck spring onion hash, with a blackberry balsamic reduction. Stellar British classics like honey-roast ham and pork and leek sausages can also be ordered as kids’ portions, whilst light bites range from an Indian Bengali dal lentil stew to a rare roast beef and horseradish sandwich.

Drinks offerings at The Armoury in Shrewsbury include an extensive and descriptive wine list alongside cafetière coffee. An al fresco drinking patio is dotted with colourful hanging baskets, whilst inside a towering bar display of spirits looks out over rustic wooden tables.

The Armoury is just a stone’s throw from Theatre Severn, and next door to Victoria Quay, where cruises on the River Severn can be booked.

Great meal on Easter Sunday. Seated on the library side which we preferred. Husband had a turkey roast dinner & i had a vegetarian option (portobello mushroom with goats cheese burger & sweet potato fries) - lovely!! Puddings as well. Service was good, atmosphere nice, all in all a very enjoyable eating experience.

Excellent food and dining environment first class and now a firm favourite of ours. Particularly impressed by the menu and the vegetarian goats cheese burger was exceptional and to finish with coffee an equally exceptional array of malt whiskies. Prices of wine per glass a little 'heavy' and had to wait 20 mins and ask again to get the dessert menu but did not detract from overall enjoyment, certainly 4.5 out of 5.
