We were sat at a low coffee table at first. I requested a proper table, got one immediately. Restaurant was far to warm. We were uncomfortable. We ate quite quick in order to get out into the fresh air. There was too much sweet food with the afternoon tea, not enough savoury. We couldn't eat all the sweet things and were craving something savoury. When I booked there was only at 16.30 slot available. The restaurant was empty, bar one other table, I don't understand why we couldn't have booked for an earlier slot. Even the low coffee tables seemed to be plentiful. I did phone before booking on line and requested an earlier reservation. I was told there was nothing available. Once the other table left, we were the only ones in the restaurant. The point of eating out was to experience some atmosphere. There was none. Then the staff started clearing up and filling the fridges, etc, and making quite a bit of noise. We felt under pressure to leave. Not that it mattered at that point, as we were so hot and uncomfortable. When they dimmed the lights, we really did feel like we were keeping them. When we needed more tea, cutlery, there wasn't anyone one around. We took the plates/cutlery from the table next to ours.
    Would definitely not recommend.
I booked the champagne afternoon tea for my friend, Jilly's, 60th birthday. It was a real disappointment. When asked how it was, I said fine as I would not want to upset Jilly by complaining.

Food was below average, fish tasted of chlorine. Quail was only actually half a qual with a burnt crust. Bread for the table was also burnt. Asked if we wanted water on the table and then charged me £3.70 for the pleasure.
Very disappointing valentines treat for my Fiancée. And they misplaced our coats, later found on the floor in a cupboard

The Angel Eaterie is a reliably good place to eat for anyone wishing to celebrate a special occasion or to experience unusually well prepared food. The Angel's menu is not lengthy but it constantly changes according to the season and the availability of its ingredients. Service at The Angel is always first class. At lunchtimes and some evenings a cheaper menu card is offered for anyone looking for good restaurant meals at pub prices.
Although The Angel is a very long established institution and was once frequented by Charles Dickens the kitchen staff there seem able to regularly come up with new and innovative innovative ideas. I have tried all sorts of dishes at The Angel and have never been disappointed.
Wine prices are a bit steep but at least their wines taste good.

Dinning experiences were terrible. We ordered the Indulgences that was consist of Seafood platter with Sea Bass for two people at £21.00 each, but we wanted each our own platter no matter the price. It was so much confusion and still at the end ONE PLATTER was still sent to our table while just one of us eating and the other waiting then the waitress came stating that the platter had to share for both when at the time the other person ate all the muscles and most of the sea bass. She picked up the empty muscles bowls and say she will order some more muscles to eat with the left over fish. The irony is that she was charging £ 84.00 for one platter of seafood plus the bowl the muscle. Her excuse were all that wouldn’t fit on the table. I went home hungry and not pleased at all.

Truly attractive building & setting. Service - charming. Attentive but not over-bearing. (Great improvement on our last visit!) We were not pressurised to buy lots of side dishes. The complimentary tasters were delightful & unexpected! The choice on the Express menu was somewhat limited but the food was beautifully presented & cooked.

Nice window seating, nice service until I had to ask for the desert menu sometime after the table was cleared. Not happy with the service charge after leaving a nice tip.

Food was lovely and lots of tempting choices on menu. Service was not great - too long for order to be taken and for mains to arrive. A bit pretentious. Disliked the fact that a service charge of 12.5 automatically added. This should be customers choice
