An intriguing basement bar close to Victoria, Tapster in London serves hearty pub fare with a notable Spanish influence. A Davy’s wine bar regularly hosting events including wine tastings, the intimate feel is enhanced with candlelit tables and cosy corners.

Homemade soups and oak smoked Cecina de Leon cured beef make for pleasing starters on the Tapster menu. A Spanish charcuterie board is packed with chorizo, salchichon and Iberico ham, while British tastes include Cornish fish stew and Cumberland bangers and mash.

Fresh fruit crème brûlée and Santiago almond tart with clotted cream are among tempting Tapster puddings. Much of the wine list also embraces the Spanish theme, which also extends to rich, nutty sherries.

The Tapster bar serves plenty of British real ales and ciders, and all the fine wines you would expect from Davy’s. A 3-minute walk from St James’s Park Tube Station brings you to Tapster.

Food not especially adventurous but consistent, good quality. Beer comes in a pewter mug which is a shame as it taints the taste. But good range of wines available at sensible prices. Waiting staff appeared to lose interest in us after the main course - and I had to press for a dessert menu.

I visited the Tapster for dinner on thursday evening around 630. When we arrived We were immediately greeted warmly by a charming waitress who guided us to our table. We had a lovely Chilean red which was recommended to us by a knowledgable Moroccan waiter who also explained the menu and offered us the days specials. We shared a player of Iberico ham that we were able to watch being carved which I followed with a delicious lamb shank with mash and a meaty jus. Desert was a rich treacle tart with clotted cream which rounded off the whole meal. The service was attentive and friendly [...]overall I had a great time and would definitely reccomend this place to my friends.
