Michelin-starred Tamarind – Queen Street has been a staple of Mayfair fine dining since 1995. Winner of numerous awards, as well as praise from Gordon Ramsay, it serves an exciting menu of vibrant Indian cuisine in chic, elegant surroundings.
There are many vegetarian dishes on the Tamarind – Queen Street menu, including tandoor grilled portabello, shiitake and oyster mushrooms with pickled onions in a curry leaf dressing. Gourmet kebabs are a house speciality, and both seafood and lamb are blended with expert combinations of warming spices and cooling yoghurt.
A combination of cooling and lightly spiced desserts are served at Tamarind – Queen Street in Mayfair. The house speciality of grilled pineapple delicately spiced with chaat masala and ginger powder, served with coconut ice cream is a favourite. A superb wine list is available, as well as fragrant cocktails such as rose petal martinis.
Tamarind – Queen Street in Mayfair brings the exciting cuisine of India to the heart of London. Offering chic, elegant décor, it lays only 5 minutes’ walk from Green Park Tube Station.

Was good - but was disappointing when compared to a previous visit. Many details were missing. For example the poppadoms, no petit fours to accompany coffee/tea as prescribed in the offer and both of the above received with offer on previous visits.

Despite having received confirmations from both Bookatable and Tamarinf restaurant, when we arrived for lunch, the receptionist could find no record of our booking. This led to confusion over the offer and menu booked and we were initially given the wrong menus.
The restaurant was quiet on a Wednesday lunchtime, with four tables full until a large group of twelve arrived as we were finishing our main course.
The trio of starters were very flavoursome and well presented, and the shared main courses were enjoyable.
Unfortunately, by the time for dessert arrived all staff appeared to be focused on serving the large group table and the dessert (a rice pudding with no alternative) was not to our taste.
Eventually we had to ask for the included coffee, and ask again for the included petit fours - which appeared to be chocolate served directly from the freezer.
The whole experience veered from a slow start, to an excellent centre and an end that fizzled out.
We eat out at Michelin star and high quality restaurants around the world, and on this occasion, at this lunch time, Tamarind just didn’t meet expectations for service. At one stage we felt completely forgotten.

The restaurant was very quiet, with only a couple of other diners. The staff were constantly watching you. The food was exceptional!

This is a restaurant of the highest quality. The food was sensational and the service exemplary. We had one minor gripe that we were not asked if we would like help with the menu, but when we did ask it was excellent. We come to London pretty regularly and this will be visited on every visit in future.

For the first half hour or so we were the only diners so staff keen to get orders so we felt a little rushed. The brussel sprouts were exceptional but all food was lovely
The ambience was improved when more diners arrived. Not the resrtaurants fault but rubbish bags on street outside were leaking .

Food was excellent, full of flavor and not very spicy. Chicken is prepared with a moistness and tenderness which is hard to achieve. Service was excellent, as though there were a whole team dedicated to us.

A good Indian restaurant, but not not as excellent as they pretend to be. A definitely descending line since our last visit two years ago. For people with deep pockets only, the price-performance ratio definitely not satisfying.
