A really lovely end to a happy day spent with my friend while we went to a concert at Falmer Church in that idealic village .
Stanmer added to the occasion with its elegance / superb location / freshly cooked fish food / delightful waitresses / who were both attentive & helpful,
Such a pity to have the travels invade along the entrance road .

The service was excellent. I took my 93yr old mother for lunch as we had often visited Stanmer Park in the past when the house was derelict and this was an opportunity to see how it has been restored to use. I found the food excellent value for money my mother had fish & chips and found the fish tough. Overall we had a good time but in retrospect a saturday in the sunshine was perhaps the wrong choice of day as it was very crowded / noisy for my mum.

We arrived for our meal and my 15 year old daughter had already said she was in a mood for a burger but even though we felt was quite a limited menu the burger had run out even though it was only 7.30pm, if you are going to offer a daily smaller menu you need to make sure everything is available. When I queried it with the waitress who did seem quite unsure of information I asked if my daughter could have the childrens burger with cheese unfortunately it arrived without the cheese but the waiter without fuss remedied. My husband was not over happy with the choices he chose the steak which he did enjoy I think the steak was more rare than medium rare but he said it was fine, he was not really In the mood for steak as he had already had one this week but did not like the other options. I chose the lamb rump which had a really good taste but was not huge and could have done with more vegetables not just one lone mini carrot and a small beetroot cubed up. It was strange to see Devon crab as we were no where near Devon and I did not fancy the idea of pigs head. I know this restaurant is a chain but we have eaten at mark cross and the old mill which is sadly not a whiting and hammond but their menus have far more choice. There were no specials either and we were told that it was because a daily menu but the mark cross is the same and they have specials. We were also told that at the end of the month this would no longer be a whiting and Hammond either. I personally did enjoy my meal and myself and my daughter enjoyed our puddings. The mojito could have been In a larger glass with slightly less ice as this leaves hardly any room for the actual drink! When payment came we were charged for an adults burger which they changed without any fuss.

ExcellentCould there be more veggie options though as risotto is not always to everyone's taste and not mine.

We had to defer arrival by 30 mins and that was accepted happily. When we arrived we were shown to a very nice window table in a lovely old room decorated with many pictures, and were waited on by a very helpful and attentive young man.
Food was lovely, the only shortfall that there was only one vegetarian dish - mushroom risotto which we had cooked at home the night before.

Service was appalling after requesting our food after an hour it still hasn't arringved, we were then informed the head chef had walked out, and only basic food could be offered, then this order was still incomplete, after complaining again to management and requesting not to pay, drinks were offered to us, I have been lots of times but the service and food has gradually gone down hill, such a shame a beautiful building fab location but I won't be returning neither will my friends or the other table of 20 who also had a very poor service, I also went last week for afternoon tea , I asked for earl grey and was given peppermint tea, I asked for fruit scone and was given a plain scone, my colleague had cold coffee. A real shame as the previous management was on the ball. But staff are not consistent and moral seems low. I hope something gets sorted soon

2 and a half of 4 dishes arrived together, however the muscles were almost cold and the bread they came with stale. Waited a long time for the 4th plate to arrive. waited even longer for the chips i ordered to accompany the muscles. Asked for them twice they still didn't come. £15 for cold muscles and not even a few chips to go with them is a bit excessive even if the surroundings are nice and the staff very pleasant.
we weren't offered a drinks menu.

It was a lovely experience. The food was delicious the dining room was beautiful and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The one slightly odd thing was that the only other diners were a party of about 10 and we were seated more or less at the end of their table when the whole of the rest of the room was empty. It didn't ruin a lovely evening though.

A good experience - interesting and historic environment, good food, attentive, friendly staff, also dog friendly in certain rooms inside the main house
