As well as home-style fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce, there are dedicated seafood tasting menus that showcase the finest fresh catches from the local quay.
Sunday lunches at Staith House in Tyne & Wear offer up a choice of succulent slow-cooked meats and fresh fish, with trimmings including fresh veggies, spring onion fritters and crème fraîche crushed potatoes. Finish things off with something from the indulgent dessert menu, such as caramel chocolate mousse, or lemon posset with poached Yorkshire rhubarb.

Been here a f ew times and always had a fabulous meal. This time tried the Sunday Roast. Between four of us we ordered Belly pork, lamb and 2 beef. We all tasted each others roast and all were lovely. Cooked to perfection and generous servings. Service was great as usual even though it was a full house. One comment - I would have preferred a smaller Yorkshire pudding and more vegetables. The veggies were lost under the huge Yorkshire and one small carrot was a bit mean and cabbage a bit over cooked. But overall I would recommend and will definitely be back again.

we visited with friends after seeing it was one of the Top 50 Gastro pubs 2020. Starters were lovely - Mozzarella, pickled grapes and dukkah was particularly nice. Cod loin was lovely, fish and chips were nice, but had better, chips were hard. Overall a nice meal, a bit pricey but worth a visit. Service was excellent, restaurant was nice clean and decorated in a seafaring theme.

Lovely Sunday lunch cooked to perfection

We visited for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. It was the best Sunday lunch we’ve had in a long time. Veg was fresh and cooked to perfection, and lamb was tender with no fatty bits. Would highly recommend and we will be back!

The food was overall good. Could do with a bit more seasoning in some places and the pheasant pie was a bit dry but the orange and fennel salad was to die for! I could had another one. The desserts were very tasty too. They need to work in the consistency of the experience, because some dishes were very nice and beautifully presented but others lacked the wow factor that could make this place a nice fine dining experience. The service w as really good, all the girls who work there, even though they were extremely young, were super professional, friendly and attentive. The ambiance of the place was ok, thought it was quite bright and it also becomes a pub later on, where lots of young kids go just for a pint, so it loses the restaurant feel, which is not great when you are having a nice birthday couple dinner. The only disappointing point was that even though I made two comments about it being my husband’s birthday, there was no acknowledgment of it, which is what would have set the whole experience apart. I would say it is a bit overpriced, for what it is, as our three course a la carte dinner with two glasses of Prosecco and one bottle of wine was £160.
