Praised by Hardens, The Good Food Guide and Michelin, Staith House is an acclaimed gastropub that prizes seasonal flavours, and champions making as much of its produce on-site. Inside, settle back in plush Chesterfield-style seating and enjoy the warm family-friendly ambience, with Sundays offering up popular roast dinners and live music events.

The Staith House menu brings its own gourmet take on British pub dishes, all made with local seasonal ingredients. Snack on light bites like spicy Scotch egg with parsley dip, before moving on to hearty mains such as rilled black pudding with lamb sweetbreads, spinach and creamy mash. As well as home-style fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce, there are dedicated seafood tasting menus that showcase the finest fresh catches from the local quay.

Sunday lunches at Staith House in Tyne & Wear offer up a choice of succulent slow-cooked meats and fresh fish, with trimmings including fresh veggies, spring onion fritters and crème fraîche crushed potatoes. Finish things off with something from the indulgent dessert menu, such as caramel chocolate mousse, or lemon posset with poached Yorkshire rhubarb.

A charming coastal pub with a relaxed ambience, Staith House is a 4-minute drive from North Shields Metro Station.

We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. It has been a few years since we last ate at The Staith House. Being honest we were a little disappointed. Both the food quality & service were a let down in comparison to when we have been there in the past.

Booking online was straightforward and no issues. Car parking was better than expected for a small area. Greeted on arrival and given choice of tables. First noticeable flaw was the beer stained chair but other than that it was very clean with a faint odour of freshly mopped floor(which is a good thing in my book). Asked if wanted any drinks while menus brought. Flaw number 2 was the menu, girl advised still printing even though they had been open at least half an hour. When menus came it was just an A4 print which was I felt was extremely unprofessional for an “award winning gastropub”! As we had viewed online menu prior to going (I always do as I like to take my time choosing) we asked where the tapas menu selection was. Girl went off again and returned to advise us unnecessarily about wrong email and couldn’t print. I asked her if she could ask chef and maybe write it down? She then returned with a copy of previous days A4 print off and advised it was the same except no whitebait. This was what let the place down for me. I fully understand their menus change everyday but at the very least I would expect them to have them ready for service and maybe have holders that they then just need to change. We all ordered a variety of starters and tapas as the mains section was really not very extensive (and none of the dishes I had chosen from online menu were to be seen). Most of the dishes arrived together but we had to remind them of 3 dishes missing when we were nearly finished the others. That was, however, the last of the flaws. The food made up for everything. Apart from average chips. Courgette fritters, fish goujons, chipolatas all lovely. Staithy scotch egg, black treacle bread n butter fabulous. Asked girl for dessert I had seen online and chef gave us all a sampler (rasp parfait with macerated blackcurrant) was exquisite and the choc mousse wasn’t too shabby either. Verdict - fantastic food let down a little by avoidable unproffesionalism but will def go again!

What a lovely, quaint restaurant, just like eating in a fisherman's hut. The food was lovely, langoustines to start, the courgette fritters were light and served with yogurt, honey and chillies. For mains we had steak (cooked to perfection), cod and coley. Would highly recommend

Excellent food, friendly efficient service. Only one draft beer available (as opposed to lager). Recorded music rather intrusive
