The Stables Tearoom at Hopetoun House offers a quintessential Scottish experience in the grounds of this stunning stately home. Restored from 18th-century stables, the restaurant now serves up seasonal light bites and indulgent afternoon teas.

The Stables Tearoom menu uses locally sourced produce to make simple, hearty fare. Try a smoked Scottish salmon sandwich, the signature Stables club sandwich, or a freshly prepared soup of the day served with crusty bread or delicious Fife handmade Scottish oatcakes.

Afternoon tea at Stables Tearoom West Lothian is made from scratch and changes daily to incorporate seasonal, local produce. Indulge in a cake stand stacked with gourmet sandwiches, homemade scones and an assortment of sweet and savoury treats. The prosecco afternoon tea offers some extra indulgence, whilst a children’s afternoon tea is also served.

The restaurant/tea room was quite busy, but it was clear from the queue that there was NO organisation. We presented our email confirmation of our booking and I might as well have presented a roll of toilet paper. No one seemed to know anything about any bookings, luckily as we stood there a table opened and we were ushered into it. The service took sooooooo long we had to call a waitress over to take our order, it seemed that in asking the Tea to be changed to Coffee for the cream tea was like asking for the mathematical proof of the roots of an equation! The waitress could not grasp I wanted COFFEE with my cake not TEA! The Food took an age to come, once again the staff needed to be prompted - several folk who had come in AFTER us had got their food - we had only asked for soup and a sandwich! Once that came and went we AGAIN had to ask when our Cream Teas were coming, once the scones etc were delivered - we had finished most of them before we AGAIN had to prompt for the drinks! Dreadful service. The 2 stars are 1 for the nice surrounds and 1 for my Husbands Cullen Skink which he enjoyed!

Big queues waiting to be seated but plenty of empty tables. Even when we told staff that we had booked for the afternoon tea they seemed to be clueless. After eventually being seated the wrong order was brought out and had to be taken away. Then we were just brought sandwiches and had to ask if we were getting our cakes. Also had to ask about our tea which someone had taken the order for. A bit chaotic. Food was excellent though.

Soup was delicious. Main courses were tasty and substantial. It would have been nice to have another vegetarian option. Service was generally good though I went for 4 rather than 5 stars. I would have given 5 if the waiting staff hadn't cleared my plate while my friend was still eating.

We enjoyed the experience but found the lunch menu very limited. Nothing for vegetarians. Good value with the voucher and good service.n

Been here before for afternoon tea and it was really nice so when I saw this I thought we would try this too. Quite a small choice of "main" courses. Personally I wouldn't call a soup or sandwich a main course. We both thought we would have the Beefburger..... Sorry no burgers left sir. We then decided on the Cullen Skink.... Guess what? No Cullen Skink left sir. We ended up having the BLT which I must say was a very tasty third choice. The service was good and the food was good but how hard can it be to make sure you have enough burgers ? It's not like we had just walked in off the street without booking.
