Behind the imposing 17th-century portico of the White Hart Hotel, Squires is an elegant traditional restaurant in the centre of the cathedral city of Salisbury. Renowned for its gutsy British cuisine, the kitchen uses seasonal local ingredients to produce hearty dishes such as braised oxtail with rosemary or roast leg of English lamb, with a hot and cold buffet at lunchtime. The cosy window tables offer views over the attractive enclosed courtyard.

Arrived for pre-booked lunch at 1.00pm and initially had the restaurant to ourselves, this did not detract from the lovely setting and prompt service we received. The starters & desserts were simply delicious and the quantity/quality of the main courses ordered really impressed us considering the very reasonable cost of our meal. The service was just the right balance of efficient attention, with a nice touch of humour included and time to enjoy our meal in peace. A really nice lunch and we will return soon to sample more great food this time probably for an evening dinner.

The food was lovely. We were the youngest in there so maybe for more mature people. The toilets were very clean and the service was excellent. Felt very up-market but the prices were very reasonable. we will definitely be returning.
