A funky blend of casual cafe and modern restaurant, Spoon in Edinburgh Old Town draws diners in with its inventive menu of Scottish and European recipes, freshly made cakes, and simple style.
Wholesome, healthy recipes feature throughout the Spoon menu, with plenty of gluten-free and dairy-free options. Regional flavours are showcased in dishes like Scottish asparagus with lemon and chilli mash and romesco sauce, and there are fresh seafood options such as chargrilled herring fillet with fennel, watercress and lemon. Exotic tastes from overseas can be found in dishes like the saag aloo with coriander and lime yoghurt, while the sides range from patatas bravas to a selection of Scottish cheeses.
There are a great selection of freshly made cakes to enjoy throughout the day at Spoon Edinburgh, while the concise wine list includes bottles from the old and new worlds. Brunch is also a popular option here, with crowd pleasing choices ranging from rolls with sausage, egg and black pudding, through to toasted waffles with bacon, blueberries and maple syrup.
Moments from the Festival Theatre Edinburgh, Spoon offers pre-theatre menus, while Edinburgh Waverley Rail Station is only 10 minutes' walk away.

Quirky restaurant with retro touches. Has a lovely relaxed feel.

We went for pre theatre. We had given ourselves 1 hr 15 minutes before show. Service was excellent, we managed 3 courses and coffee and got away on time for the opera opposite. Food is basic but good. Will be back next time.

Average breakfast served very slowly. Poor value for money based on quality of food and service.

The atmosphere is calming. The decor is delightfully quirky. The food is delicious. The service is very good. The lamb is particularly good. There is a fine choice of wine.

We received a friendly welcome when we arrived. The service was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 courses. My sister and I had exactly the same for starter and main course. Our wine choice was influenced by our waitress’ advice and I am glad we did seek it as the wine was delicious and complimented our dishes well. We really enjoyed the tasty cauliflower and sweetcorn fritters with the yummy Dahl. I thought the main course of sea bass was cooked beautifully and I just devoured it. I loved the chilli and garlic mayo and my sister loved the Thai potaoes. A very scrumptious dish, thank you. The brownie I had for dessert was good but for me the fish had trumped the chocolate!

We had a lovely pre theatre meal on Friday. We all had the pre theatre menu and chose the fish which was delicious. We had a good table in the window. Service was good and helpful.
