A funky blend of casual cafe and modern restaurant, Spoon in Edinburgh Old Town draws diners in with its inventive menu of Scottish and European recipes, freshly made cakes, and simple style.

Wholesome, healthy recipes feature throughout the Spoon menu, with plenty of gluten-free and dairy-free options. Regional flavours are showcased in dishes like Scottish asparagus with lemon and chilli mash and romesco sauce, and there are fresh seafood options such as chargrilled herring fillet with fennel, watercress and lemon. Exotic tastes from overseas can be found in dishes like the saag aloo with coriander and lime yoghurt, while the sides range from patatas bravas to a selection of Scottish cheeses.

There are a great selection of freshly made cakes to enjoy throughout the day at Spoon Edinburgh, while the concise wine list includes bottles from the old and new worlds. Brunch is also a popular option here, with crowd pleasing choices ranging from rolls with sausage, egg and black pudding, through to toasted waffles with bacon, blueberries and maple syrup.

Moments from the Festival Theatre Edinburgh, Spoon offers pre-theatre menus, while Edinburgh Waverley Rail Station is only 10 minutes' walk away.

Love the atmosphere of Spoon, staff friendly and efficient.
Food has always been fantastic every time I have visited, simple and tasty.

The Spoon is a quirky, lively restaurant conveniently situated opposite the festival theatre. The staff are pleasant and helpful - but really rushed at busy times. The food was excellent and very tasty. My only quibble is the shabbiness of the ladies loos - the collages of old magazines on the inside of the doors was quirky and interesting a few years ago, but is now past its' best and needs sprucing up. Otherwise, this is our restaurant of choice for a theatre visit and we love the buzz and good food above all. Thank you

It was OK. We were hoping to have the pre-theatre menu but weren't offered it, then another table had it. The service was slow but the food was good.
