Restaurant description

Served inside the regal Edwardian Drawing Room, Slaley Hall is an irresistible example of fine British dining. This luxurious 4-star hotel sits in 1000 acres of beautiful Northumbrian countryside, and provides the perfect tranquil setting to enjoy relaxed meals.

All the traditional treats are served on the Afternoon Tea at Slaley Hall menu, and come beautifully presented. To start, there are delicate finger sandwiches with gourmet fillings like poached chicken with lime and coriander mayonnaise, and English salted cucumber with apple crème fraîche, moving on to home-baked plain and sultana scones served with Cornish clotted cream and red berry preserves.

Slaley Hall in Hexham also offers a menu of refined British dishes. Sample the likes of pan-roasted breast of chicken stuffed with haggis, 28-day aged sirloin steaks with triple-cooked chips, or the chocolate brownie with hazelnut mousse.

A great example of elegant British tradition, Afternoon Tea at Slaley Hall is a 20-minute drive from Hexham.

Dinner was very good, food was excellent and have no negative comments at all. Breakfast was quite good but it was obvious that items like the bacon, fried eggs and black pudding had been lying around to long as they tended to be quite dry and hard. It was about 9:00 when I had breakfast. Having said that I did generally enjoyed my breakfast.

The meal on our first night was delicious.Unfortunately the meal on the 2nd night was not as good. We all had steaks . The two that had the striploin were satisfactory but the two that had the ribeye were not cooked to their preference. Adam our waiter quickly rectified the issue and another meal was supplied for them. These were fine. I would like to say that Adam was very professional in dealing with the steak issue and the restaurant manager came and spoke to us as well.

Had a lovely meal, we chose the steak and the belly pork was very well cooked and presented. The waiters couldn’t do enough for you and very attentive and knowledgable. Would definitely recommend.

We ate breakfast dinner and lunch at the restaurant. Food for all 3 meals was very tasty and well presented. Great variety and the price paid represented great value for money.

Historically, hotel food in the UK was seen to be something for the residents to eat and not somewhere a foodie would choose to frequent. The opposite is true in France where the best restaurants are often part of the hotel. A nice surprise, then, to eat well at the restaurant in Slayley Hall Hotel, Northumberland. The menu has a large selection of small plates and a grill section. I opted for yellow fin tuna which was cooked perfectly pink. Mrs H enjoyed the North Sea haddock with some of the biggest chips I have ever seen (see photo). Courteous, speedy service from our guy Cristian made it a good night out. Just a single malt in the bar to round it all off!

Food very good beds comfortable hotel bars and public & quiet areas all very good golf courses excellent. Staff training not of high enough standard. For a real 4star experience a huge improvement in staff quality is required. We are unlikely to return as a consequence of current staff quality
