Restaurant description

Set in a former courtroom, Silk in Soho brings innovative international cuisine to a venue brimming with history. Seasonal menus are punctuated with innovative blends of exotic flavours and local produce.

Start with the exciting scallops with artichokes and strawberry salsa, tilapia fish seared in banana leafs, or more traditional options like Thai vegetable spring rolls. The Silk restaurant menu features the delicious grilled duck breast with kumquats, puy lentils and sweet potato mash, and swordfish steak marinated in Thai spices and ginger. Vegetarians aren’t left out with spinach and paneer kofta amongst the mouth-watering options.

The creative cuisine of Silk in The Courthouse hotel is set against the backdrop of a room that has seen the trials of Oscar Wilde, John Lennon and Mick Jagger. The original dock, witness stand, oak panels and glass ceiling combine with sophisticated tableware to create a unique dining experience.

In the heart of Soho , Silk is a 4-minute walk from Oxford Circus Tube Station.

We attended for the afternoon tea with champagne. The restaurant was average, it felt like a café rather than a hotel, we were seated by a door and staff area, which was not particularly pleasant. I don't recall any background music which may have been a nice addition. The afternoon tea was fairly good - pastries and scones were lovely (although individual jam and cream would be better) , sandwiches were a bit dry and just OK, my friend felt the ham was pre-formed rather than carved.

Dinner received as a voucher gift. Food good but not outstanding (duck (good) but served with absolutely no garnish nor accompaniment). Service friendly and efficient but the dining room lacked any real atmosphere.

Lovely to see the original court room. Menu was limited and service very slow. No one there to greet us when we arrived, we had to shout behind the counter. All rather tired we thought.

Initially made to feel slightly uncomfortable as I was immediately asked for a voucher. This was not a gift experience as I was going to pay for the afternoon tea. However, service was friendly and efficient and food was excellent value for money. There was no rush for us to leave the restaurant so my guests and I had a very leisurely afternoon chat over our delicious tea.

Quite disappointing my husband had two attempts at his duck dish to not eat it at all. I ordered noodles with chicken to be given a plate of just chicken pieces. However when I did get the noodles and chicken dish it was very tasty. We also asked for a bottle of red wine to be given two glasses of wine. When we did get our bottle of red wine it arrived in an ice bucket. The manager did deduct my husbands dish and also the service charge which was very kind.

On arrival we were the only diners in the restaurant. We had a very warm welcome by a delightful and friendly waitress.... we were able to chose were we wanted to sit. The court room is an amazing room and excellent venue for a meal with a difference... great history to the room. The food was excellent.... pan Asian and both bring vegetarian we were pleased with the food.... very tasty and nice wine too. The service was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed the food.... only four other diners came into the restaurant whilst we were there.... surprising for a Thursday evening as other restaurants around Carnaby Str etc were packed.... a hidden gem. Thank you.

It was very quiet. Food was ok but we enjoyed the evening having both worked at the court many years ago. Not sure I would return

Unfortunately the 'Silk' experience did not fulfill expectations. The service was very slow, and the food ordered was not exactly what we received. Our waitress was friendly and did her best under difficult circumstances. Presumably there was a staff shortage, especially in the kitchen The saving grace was the food which was tasty.
