Restaurant description

A traditional pub, The Ship stands on the site of a former coaching inn known as The Talbot, which was razed to the ground by the Great Fire of London in 1666. The pub was rebuilt and named the ship to honour the dock workers and deck hands who were regulars at the establishment.

Since Nicholson’s pubs were first established in 1873, these traditional British inns have become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality range of ales. As well as always featuring British pub classics like beer-battered fish & chips and gammon & eggs, the Ship menu is complemented by a rotating selection of pie, sausage & chop and fish specials for each season.

The Ship bar is always stocked with exquisite gins, warming whiskies and fine wines to pair with favourite meals, and there’s always a superb range of seasonal and regional real ales on offer. A constant at the bar is the St Austell-brewed Nicholson’s Pale Ale, made with Cornish Maris Otter malts, and a hand-picked blend of English hops.

The Ship in Monument is a 2-minute walk from Monument Tube Station.

A very enjoyable experience, the staff were very helpful, the poor lady had to run up and down the stairs numerous times for beer tastings and to check the menu choices. unfortunately the coffee machine had gone wrong which they hadn't told us when we ordered our hot drinks....
