Dining @Criterion...absolute heaven!
13 March 2018
From the world-famous Savini restaurant in Milan, Savini at Criterion serves fine Italian cuisine in one of London’s most spectacular and historic settings. Built in 1873, the Grade II-listed The Criterion features a neo-Byzantine dining room and a long bar complete with gold ceiling, marble columns and impressive chandeliers.
The Savini restaurant menu offers all-day dining from breakfast with homemade pastries through to exquisite Italian dishes for lunch and dinner. With many West End theatres just minutes away, Savini at Criterion also offers pre-and post-theatre dining.
Afternoon tea at Savini includes decadent English and Italian savoury and sweet treats as well as over 20 teas and infusions. With a warm ambience and live piano music, signature cocktails are served at the Iconic Long Bar - the inspired meeting place between Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson in ‘A Study in Scarlet’.
A luxurious spot for all-day Italian dining, Savini restaurant London sits a stone’s throw from Piccadilly Circus Tube Station.

Dining @Criterion...absolute heaven!

Wonderful venue, but would not recommend for pre-theatre dinner. We arrived punctually at 6.00 pm and immediately placed order. First course arrived promptly, but main course did not arrive till 7.00pm in spite of chasing it and we hardly had time to eat it before leaving for theatre at 7.20. No time for desert though we were charged for it.

Beautiful restaurant with a rich setting and an easy, warm ambience aided by the gentle tinkling of the ivories in the background ! All the food was delicious however the presentation of the desserts was excellent .

The menu selections were limited, as they always are on a Bookatable Deal. But last time we did this there were a few choices we liked. This time there wasn't a single menu choice I liked in any of the three categories. The food we ordered was bland and tasteless. The service was friendly, but painfully slow, especially at the beginning. We will not go back again.

This is a beautiful restaurant, the setting is stunning. Food was quite good, reasonable size portions but not outstanding. The same can be said of the service, friendly but quite ordinary. I would recommend this restaurant, it felt like a place under new ownership still settling in but for such a central London location reasonable value.

Beautiful interior, very easy to get to as a Piccadilly circus tube station exit is 2m from the front door. Although in the centre of a tourist hotspot inside the ambience was very relaxed and private, waiting staff were professional and attentive, however not overly so. Food was excellent, extremely satisfied and not too expensive considering the location and quality. Definitely worth a visit on special occasions!

Very disappointed with both the food and service. There where three of us and two dishes had to be sent back. The dessert was obviously frozen and not defrosted before serving.

Savini feels incredibly classy as soon as you walk in. Elaborately decorated with high ceilings, large mirrors, a huge bar with every type of drink you could ask for. The waiters gave big smiles as we came in (except one waiter who we could not get a smile from at all!). We went for the set menu which unfortunately had no vegetarian option for the main course so our friend had to have a large starter as her main which was a shame. The food was good but if I wasn't eating there on a set lunch deal I think I would have been disappointed considering the prices of the dishes. This is a restaurant where you really come for the venue, not the food.
Unfortunately there was a strong smell of dog food which hit us as we walked in. You do become immune to this after a while but it was a little off-putting.
In sum, we had a good meal here with pleasant staff and you do feel like you are in a very classy establishment. It would be nice to go back at some point but I won't be returning in a hurry.
