Typical english dishes coked and served in the right way

London’s oldest restaurant, Rules has provided the capital with traditional British food since 1798. Timelessly elegant, its illustrious history has seen the likes of Charles Dickens and H.G Wells sample the hearty menu.
As authentic as ever, the Rules menu is led by wild game and classic British dishes. Whole roast grouse and loin of venison highlight the rich variety of meats on offer, topped off by rabbit hotpot, and wild boar and mushroom pie. Dishes don’t come much more British than the rump of Lake District lamb with haggis bubble and squeak, or steamed steak and kidney suet pudding, whilst the likes of pheasant curry with basmati rice, and Loch Duart salmon with mussels and garam masala, add exotic touches to authentic cuisine.
Historic prints adorning the walls, the extravagance of the restaurant’s décor led poet John Betjeman to describe it as ‘unique and irreplaceable, and part of literary and theatrical London.’ Upstairs, the Rules cocktail bar with its glamorous menu and plush red seating, epitomises the old-fashioned elegance of the entire building.

Customer reviews for Rules

As ever, the food was delicious. We had a fairly long wait for the meal to arrive but as it is freshly cooked it was worth waiting for. It was, perhaps, a while longer than we have experienced before. The restaurant was almost full and the staff who are friendly and helpful were kept busy. The delay has not deterred us from returning at a future date.

Always a pleasure to go there. One of the few restaurants able to be consistent in delivering delicious food, great service and ambience over the years. A must place to visit.

Once again Rules delivered an outstanding experience. From the moment the friendly doorman greeted us to the moment he said “goodbye” everyone and everything was excellent.
A both relaxing and decadent experience.
I would recommend getting there early and treating yourselves to a cocktail upstairs.

Food was good but the serve was questionable. We had two hours at our table but could only get through two courses and missed the dessert because it took so long to get served.

The food was decent and the service was pleasant. It's nice to try once if you visit London but it's a tourist magnet for all the right and wrong reasons.
