Restaurant description

Set in a former Georgian townhouse on Kensington High Street, the newly renovated Romulo Café and Restaurant is a neighbourhood restaurant offering delightful Filipino cuisine in a vibrant, chic atmosphere. Complementing the new interiors is a fresh menu that balances all the exciting favourites and signature creations such as Tito Greg’s Kare-Kare, Chicken and Pork Adobo “Romulo Style’ but in a more pared down form. Inspired by the famed Carlos P. Romulo and run by his family, this highly commended restaurant offers traditional recipes with an innovative touch. Vegetarians will find much to tickle their palates, such as the Young Jackfruit and Coconut Stew.

A new fixture is a prix fixe lunchtime menu from Monday to Friday, 12pm to 3pm. Featuring two courses for just £12.95 or three for £15.75 – and dishes of the calibre of Ilocos-style miki noodle soup, grilled pork belly barbecue and mango float ice cream – this is not only a great value ‘express’ offering for time-pressed diners, but a fantastic introduction to Filipino cooking for those unfamiliar with the cuisine.

Created by executive chef Jeremy Villanueva, all dishes continue to be made with the finest seasonal ingredients sourced from such renowned local suppliers as Dingley Dell Pork. The Bar serves traditional and speciality cocktails as well as original Philippine beers.

Romulo Café and Restaurant is located just by Warwick Gardens bus stop or an 8-minute walk from both Kensington Olympia and High Street Kensington stations.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

It was my first time to dine in your restaurant. Not impressed at all and would not come back.. The Kare kare was served very very late. It arrived when we were almost finished. We lost our appetite eating the Kare Kare coz its a bit late. Only our table doesnt have a small tree decor. Some of the food was served but we dont have diiner plate. We need to ask for a plate which i believe we shouldn't. Does have enough Tuna in the Kilawin . The sisig was a bit dry. I am embarrassed to recommend the place.

Wonderful food, friendly staff and great ambiance! We had the crispy squid, confit duck bao, pancit guisado, aubergine adobo, mushroom tofu mix and the mango float - all amazing! Really well paired with a jug of calamansi soda. I would definitely come back and try more dishes, especially the sans rival cake!

It was my birthday lunch and my family enjoyed our dining experience. The dishes were tasty. My favourite is the lumpia and pansit. The adobo was interesting but would prefer a more authentic one. The sinigang was also nice but could use a bit more vegies. The rellenong pusit and tinapa roll were unique. Also for the Halo Halo, although delicious, I would prefer it served in a large tall glass instead of a bowl. Wonderful staff and great service. Beautiful restaurant and facilities are clean. We will come again.
