The setting for The Mill Hotel was beautiful, we arrived a little early but the staff seated us as we arrived and at a window table so we could see the pond and willow trees. The afternoon tea was amazing, warm scones with Tiptree jam and clotted cream made it perfect. We were also all coveting the lamb shank that another diner was having it looked amazing and we were reliably informed it was better than it looked

Walked In through a corridor filled with spare furniture which didn't look great. Was told to go to the restaurant to book in.... No one there, so went to the bar where again told restaurant, this went on for a few minutes until we were finally seated..... Sat by a dirty window swarmed with flies, complained... so then moved to a table that we dare not lean on for fear it would collapse. The tea was served Luke warm, The sandwiches were starting to go stale, The scones were so dry we left them, The only good thing was the cakes, I'm not entirely sure that they were home made. And to top it off the staff were not overly friendly. One of the worst afternoon tea experiences we've ever had

The gentleman on reception was extremely helpful and friendly. The venue and views were very nice. The afternoon tea was nice, not exceptional. The staff in the restaurant could have been better, they were certainly not rude at all, but could have been a little more attentive. A smile goes a very long way, They were not busy, in fact it was very quiet, we had to ask for another pot of tea and the staff member asked if it was for us!!?? When we finished our afternoon tea, the staff member came to take the cake stand away, I asked if she could box up the spare cakes for us to take home, this has always been offered without asking at other venues I've been to, she looked slightly surprised but said it was no problem. The cakes came back all bunched up in tin foil, not in a suitable box which other venues provide without even being asked. Made me feel like I was being a bit greedy. Having said all this, the overall experience was satisfactory and would probably recommend to others as not bad value for money.
