Swathed in old English charm, Rising Sun offers a small slice of India from a menu littered with European and Nepalese nuances. Basking in the Surrey countryside, the old-world restaurant hosts weekly folk song nights and serves a plethora of cherry-picked real ales.
Along with a handful of time-honoured favourites, the Rising Sun menu features stir-fried chilli squid cooked with peppers and onion, together with succulent mixed grills and fragrant rice dishes. A chef’s special of slow-cooked, melting lamb shanks is served in a lightly-spiced sauce with chickpeas and new potatoes.
Quaint in its rural simplicity, the black and white building houses a private grassy garden as well as an anterior gravel courtyard for outdoor dining. Inside, the décor is a fusion of original oak features, accented by a smattering of south-Asian design, while cosy pub furniture pays homage to the restaurant’s country roots.
Glover’s Wood is just a 3-minute drive from Rising Sun in Horley, while a network of leafy trails and riverside walks are on the doorstep.
