Really enjoyed our meal, the waiters were very attentive.
Staff were helpful, friendly and efficient. The room is attractive and the ambience relaxed; we felt comfortable and not too close to other tables. The menu was varied and good value for money. Our meals were delicious and piping hot.
Food was spot on, however when we asked if we could sit by the window, the foreign (French) girl told us a clear no, as it was booked out to another couple.
When we booked our table, there was not an option of where we wanted to sit so this was a clear lie on her behalf. Yes a table for 2 had been booked out but
it could have been any table for 2 (not by the window specifically). We were very very disappointed with this.
Also the other couple came in for a booked table at 8 pm so they could have easily have put us by the window but chose not to. Very very disappointed.
We were looking forward to our first meal at Nelson's and had already viewed the menu online so knew what to expect in terms of choice.
After letting the bar staff know we were there, we were shown to our table
Disappointingly, it was a rather small table tucked away in the corner of the main dining room, next to a window with one chair facing the window and one chair facing the wall. The most disappointing aspect was there seemed to be flying ant infestation, as there were several on the window, window sill and wall we're we were sitting.
The food was excellent, couldn't really complain about it, our issues were with the table location/set up and the insect issue, would be reluctant to go back and end up on the same table
According to the menu it said crispy chicken wings and they weren't crispy at all. We had to wait over an hour for our food - not good
Payment by credit/debit card not possible because of technical problems. Service rather haphazard. Initially held off on ordering drinks while one of the party went to toilet. Then apparently forgotten about by wait staff until summoned by us. Ordered a bottle of wine and 4 glasses - wrong wine delivered to our table and all glasses were rejected by us because unclean (lipstick stains around the rims). Two staff involved in rectifying this - one possibly a trainee?. Food and portion sizes were good but the overall experience was not up to the standard of the group's other venues.
Food was good, and served hot. Service was unusually disappointing.
Perfectly adequate pub food but hardly a ‘gastropub’ as claimed.
My friend and I had a brilliant lunch in Nelson's Bar. The staff were friendly, polite and really helpful. The food was superb. Will definitely go again.
We were extremely disappointed. I was meeting a friend who I had met in Australia and hadn’t seen for a few years, our mums came also. We were thrilled with the seperate gluten free menu although my friend reported that the prawns were tasteless and the rice was a soggy mess in the Thai red curry. Her Mum has the roast dinner as did I, the stuffing was over cooked and appeared as a burnt square block. My friends mum ordered the 3 meats and could only report on 2. My mum ordered half duck and was unable to take the meat off the bone as it was so over cooked. The disappointing duck was only mentioned when the waitress collected the plates as we were so busy catching up and the mums had only just met so mine especially didn’t want to come across as a pain. The waitress did apologise and said she would let the chef know yet did not return leaving us to go to the bar to pay full bill. There was a wedding on so we thought the chefs must have been busy and stressed but felt very dissapointed as I had suggested the venue.
