We have had fairly good experiences previously but our visit on Sunday was very poor and we will be unlikely to return. The staff were not very friendly (tone was a variety of confused, stressed or patronising), service was very slow indeed - unforgivably so. Portions of food were reasonable for some dishes but far too small for others. One mains dish was essentially an onion and a few spoonfuls of quinoa and it cost £16. The Plough, like many pubs, are capitalising on vegan and veggie dishes and charging huge amounts for dishes with very low ingredients costs. Overall prices are far too high for most food and drink.
Deserts were lovely, albeit expensive.
The location and pub itself has a lovely ambience on a summers day. Gardens fantastic and kids play area superb.
The restaurant was very busy, but the food did not take too long to come. The flavours of the vegetables was lovely though the division of the meat between the 5 main courses(all beef) was not very even. There was not much choice for young children(2&3), fish fingers would have been better than the large fish. The staff were very accommodating.
Vert pleased with the service (waitress was engaging, pleasant, and made us feel very welcome) and the quality of the food was excellent.
Lovely setting, pleasantly furnished and friendly professional staff. Food was good but over-priced, especially the desserts. There were several issues on the day we visited including lack of gluten-free buns, a problem with a fryer and a very limited ice cream menu as a freezer had broken.
Great food in the sunshine on the lovely terrace. Goat’s cheese starter a particular highlight.
Amazing!! Service was great, very attentive staff. We were sat outside on the terrace which was lovely. The food was delicious. Will definitely be returning!
I was extremely disappointed. I have taken guests to The Plough for years, and last summer the food was excellent. But I have taken people there four times this summer, and each time it was very disappointing. The batter on the fish and chips was not crispy, as it should be, the brownie in the dessert was not very good (it was excellent in the past), the starters were very disappointing. Altogether I was very unhappy with the food and sorry to have taken guests there. The atmosphere outside is wonderful, so this is a great disappointment.
Excellent venue. Staff very professional.food excellent
An enjoyable meal. Food well prepared and served. Meat excellent (I had the lamb and the folks had pork). The vegetarian option was good but somewhat limited (but nothing to grumble about). We we had our meal in the Winnowing room this time (previous meals have been in the main restaurant and outdoors in the garden) and by popular choice this is our least enjoyable area to eat in (BUT not enough to prevent us from coming to The Plough for a meal again). All the staff (from owners to waiters/waitresses/waitrons) were attentive and knew there business. And to cap it all, impromptu entertainment was provided which kept the patrons and staff "captivated". The Plough is a great place to eat - pity it had taken us so long to "find" this eatery.
A lively, busy restaurant with excellent food and service. Good ambience and relaxed atmosphere
