This is a lovely dining pub. Green surrounds and a big beer garden and tucked off to the side is a climbing frame.
We sat inside for a Sunday lunch. There were customers but the place was by no means busy.
We ordered starters of pork/black pudding Scotch Egg and Salt and pepper squid. Both were excellent.
We all ordered a Roast; Beef, Chicken and Pork. All were good with nice gravy and enormous Yorkshire pudfings.
Desserts were; Pannacotta with strawberry sorbet. Sticky toffee pudding, chocolate fondant with chocolate orange icecream and strawberry icecream cone, again all excellent and plates were clean.
The service is what let our experience down. Everything seemed to take so long. The bar was near to us but drinks took ages to arrive. The time between ordering and the first course getting to table was long (we thought about getting crisps from the bar!). It was all just so slow. The staff were nice and served to table well but something somewhere was going awry. Surely Sunday lunch is made ahead of time and is not cooked from scratch?
We had planned a leisurely meal but this really did stretch it.
I'd recommend the premises, the garden, the food and the pleasant staff but make a plea for a bit of bustle from the bar and kitchen.
Normally if there is a staff shortage you feel it and see the stress. We didn't get the impression there was not enough people.
The expirence was great,we have had very nice dinner.
I can't believe we live so close and yet have never been before!
Lovely garden at the rear with children's play area, much larger than I was expecting. We booked for 7.30 Thursday evening. 4 people in our group. We received a warm welcome and had a drink at the bar on arrival. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Every course was 10/10 and we all ordered different meals. Very impressed and cannot wait to go back. 1 person in our group ordered seabass as a main which was a little on the small side if you are just having a main but we had 3 courses.
I would definitely recommend to friends, top chef and staff. Good decor and a warm ambience.
Lovely old fashioned and quirky pub with a great beer garden and nice staff. The food was amazing
Very good and also good value for money worth the journey
Lovely surroundings and pleasant ambience.meal very tasty and full of flavour however we had to wait for long periods between courses, lack of vegetables only one choice given, would have preferred to have been given a selection in separate dishes. Portion sizes quite small, not a lot for the money. When the bill came there was also a £14 service charge added which under the circumstances due to the long wait to get our meal should have been wavered. I think customers should be given the choice as to wether to leave a service charge, depends on the service given. ( Just to add the waitress did come and tell us our meal would be another 20mins)
Serving staff most attentive, recited the Specials with enthusiasm, poured tapwater without prompting.
Food was above normal Gastropub selection and quality, enough choice to get a satisfactory balance, and wine list featured
a nice NZ Pinot Noir which we chose and thus started a lively conversation with one of the very good waiting staff.
We had a fabulous and very relaxed lunch, sitting outside in the Spring sunshine, food was fantastic and the waitress was very friendly and attentive. Didn't catch her name but she's going on holiday soon to Thailand so hope she has a great time!!
Very pleasant staff, the food was very good and the cost reasonable.
Lovley restaurant old and quaint food was really nice , I had the salmon and haddock fish cakes I would recommend them
