I was VERY, VERY disappointed. Having booked the table to spend the evening with a great friend, who I wanted to be able to talk with. When we arrived our table was located just next to the back door, normally this would be ok but not on New Year's Eve. The door was being used by young customers from the pub/disco area who were making their way outside to have a cigarette. We were constantly being knocked and I asked to be moved, several times. I was informed there were no spare tables anywhere. (Not the case at all, as there was a table I watched throughout my meal, that was never occupied and this would have placed us away from the door and the extremely loud music).
The disco set up in the bar lounge area was so loud my guest and I were unable to hear/speak to each other speak. There was no mention of the disco on the special new years eve menu at my time of booking!
We were NOT offered a drink on arrival, I had leave our table and find a member of staff to bring us a menu and provide us with a drink.
The staff were running around like headless chickens, literally running! The food was OK but not £59.95's worth.
We left before we were offered coffee as the noise and the atmosphere were intolerable.
No I would not recommend it to anybody at all. DO NOT GO THERE ON NEW YEARS EVE unless you are under 25 or partially deaf.
Considering I left a comment on my booking explaining that we were celebrating a birthday I felt like the service was rushed especially after having to wait to be seated.
A most enjoyable meal. We were exceptionally well looked after, and we will certainly be back.
Very pleasant afternoon. We did have to wait for our table but, that aside, the one we were given was very good. The service was fine and the food was good
I have eaten here a few times the food is usuall good the atmosphere is good but the service lets it down. Not this time , the service was excellent quick ,efficient and polite. There was a young man who I have seen behind the bar previously acting it seemed as a manager, who was great, eyes everywhere , it made a big difference, will definitely visit more often to eat based on this experience
Excellent food, great choice on the menu, friendly service that was very attentive, great atmosphere, will definitely be returning.
Food was excellent e.g. the salt and pepper squid and the sword fish was truly delicious with lots of interesting flavours which complimented the fish. Service was ok but not amazing-not sure how knowledgeable some of the staff were. Maybe there's a high turnover.
The food was excellent we were all really satisfied with our choices. Service was even better, we talked for ages and were not given any hints to move on! The manager was a sweetheart. Couldn't fault it!
I love this place, however on Sunday evening the service was extremely poor. Weren't greeted to our table, it was like the waiter didn't want to be there. He didn't ask for drinks so we had to catch someone's eye to get some which then they forgot the tap water I asked for aswell. Roast was delicious really great food however then they brought the sweet menu and was waiting 15 mins for them to come back in which time we just asked for the bill and gave the waitress the feedback that the service was so poor! She didn't apologise and just got the bill.
Food was amazing, everything else not great. Plenty of other restaurants now in Epping I'll go to ahead of the George which is a shame.
Very pleasant evening and lovely good
