Lovely location by the river. The food was excellent with some unusual options. Great Vegan menu as well as veggie and pescatarian choices on the main menu. Service was a bit slow.
The waitress got the order completely work on our starters and we had to wait while it was sorted out
Good atmosphere - service slow
Good food excellent service.
I have been to the Saxon Mill on several occasions. I have to say I was dissapointed. Firstly, we were put in an area where the light hung right by my head. It seemed too low. Secondly there were screaming children behind us. This is not the fault of Saxon Mill.
However when we ordered the wrong wine was brought to the table, The mains came before the starters were cleared away therefore and there were two waiters waiting for someone to clear with out food in their hands.
The Fish and Chips, were very greasy.
All in all not an exceptional experience for an exceptional price.
We stopped using the Saxon Mill a couple of years ago because the service was very bad on a few occasions and the portions had shrunk but we needed a restaurant mid way between Coventry and Banbury to meet some old friends and Warwick is a good location so we thought that we would try the restaurant again. When we arrived the car park was completely full and it was 'one in one out' so not a good start and although it is always busy at week ends we did not expect it on a week night. The restaurant was also very busy and the waitress advised us straight away that the food would take 30 minutes which we accepted as we had a lot of catching up to do. However, the food actually took 90 minutes to arrive and when it did it was very poorly presented (no better than a canteen). Two in the party wanted fish and chips, one of the restaurants main 'flag ship' dishes but an hour into our wait we were informed that they had run out of fish and would we accept 'fish goujons' instead - which we did but when they arrived they were vert small and very oily as there was so much more batter on them as opposed to a piece of fish. I and my partner had chicken but because it had been sitting waiting, probably on hot plate for the fish goujons to cook, it was dry. We don't normally complain and under the circumstances it would have been a bit embarrassing if we had in front of our friends so this review is our complaint albeit 48 hours overdue. The Saxon Mill is a lovely building in superb setting but unfortunately the service goes no way to meeting the vista it initially provides.
Absolutely dreadful. Drinks took 45 minutes to be served and the food was over an hour. The drinks were wrong, the food was cold and the vegetables inedible. There was no apology, just a "I'll see what I can do". It was a disgrace and we will never go there again.
This was one of the nicest restaurants I’ve visited for a long while. A fabulous menu that made choice difficult, great food and excellent service!
Thought good was very disappointing. Not quite pub grub and definitely not gastro pub. It was quite tasteless and covered in oil. Hubby steak was very rare when he asked for medium rare not en blue. Too much fat on it as well.
We enjoyed the decor and views from the outside sitting area
