A beautiful redbrick hotel dating back to 1704, The Plough & Harrow presents refined British cuisine for lunch, dinner and afternoon tea in its elegant dining and lounge rooms. Dining in the main restaurant is a sophisticated and formal experience, whilst afternoon tea can be taken in the relaxed lounge or on the sun-drenched terrace.

The Plough & Harrow restaurant menu is graced by 12 hour-cooked pork belly with apple and honey purée, and a pan-fried Mediterranean sea bass with squid ink linguine, mussels and vermouth sauce. Rhubarb ‘5 ways’ is an enigmatic end to proceedings, and sits on the dessert list next to a white chocolate torte with chocolate gel and sugared mint leaves.

A light menu in The Plough & Harrow lounge features dainty sandwich options like smoked salmon and cream cheese, and pink roast beef with vine tomatoes and rocket, alongside salads and sharing platters. Indulgent afternoon tea is a traditional collection of finger sandwiches, freshly-baked scones and a chocolate fancy.

Just a 10-minute walk from the centre of Birmingham on Hagley Road, The Plough & Harrow Hotel enjoys a tranquil, leafy pocket of the city.

Main course excellent as always but was disappointed that the desserts were not as the menu because I Was looking forward to the sticky toffee pudding. However the profiteroles were very good.b

Decor is looking a bit dated and tired. Outside tables had not been cleaned and view of hotel bedroom windows with grey net curtains not very pleasant. Food ok but not a great choice if vegetables a couple of pieces of broccoli in a dish of carrots. Raspberry desert had 4 berries!

Went as a party of 3 for the '2 Sunday Lunches for the price of 1' deal. Decent selection to choose from on the menu. We were amongst the last to be served as we had the 2pm slot, which is the latest time slot for Sunday lunch. It looked like they must've run out of roast potatoes as the ones we had were a bit undercooked, However, they tasted ok and we were offered a glass of Prosecco each to make up for the delay in receiving our meals which was a nice gesture. Apart from the delay with our mains, service was friendly and efficient. Would return if there's an attractive deal on offer! Overall an enjoyable meal.

Lovely 3 course lunch prawn cocktail, lamb with all the trimmings and sticky toffee pudding. Best of all it was 2 for 1.
The staff are very friendly and eager to please.

I booked afternoon tea for my mum's birthday, the food was very nice but considering there were no other guests it didn't appear to be very well organised.

Lovely soup but the roast dinner was disappointing . Pre sliced beef that had been reheated and was therefore overlooked . Dark brown Yorkshire puddings and a few veg . Roast potatoes were crispy . Banoffee pie had very little toffee and had been defrosted as some of the banana slices were still hard .
Only two other couples dining , I wonder why ?

    1. No one at reception so queued behind a hotel guest requiring help. Receptionist appeared from behind a screened off section after about 4 minutes waiting chewing food. Presumably been having her lunch, (it was about 1.55).
    2. Waitress very nice, friendly and efficient.
    3. Prosecco we chose was not available. Stock control must be a basic thing to get right surely?
    4. My vegetarian afternoon tea arrived with smoked salmon sandwiches.
    5. Some of the sandwiches had obviously been made with the outside of the sliced loaf and had a dried texture.
    6. Cakes were high on sugar content and very low in flavour. Usually an indication of cheapness.
    8. Tea good but not very hot.
    9. Good waitress replaced with a waiter, no tie, generally slightly dishevelled who promptly disappeared. Was going to have another glass of prosecco but gave up and left.
    10. Decor pleasant and calm atmosphere.
