A very mixed dinner experience. Polite and attentive staff. Restaurant not too busy but service very slow. Two simple starters took 25 minutes to arrive. Smoked trout starter was excellent and set the expectation for the rest of the meal; soup starter was good but presentation was poor. Another long wait for mains. Mullet was good but served without potato so these had to be ordered as a side. Calves liver was inedible as it was served so rare it had the consistency of tough jelly - I had not been asked at the time of ordering how I would like it cooked; a replacement was immediately offered - this time I was asked how well done it should be - and I had another wait while it was prepared; the replacement was good and the flavour excellent, however, it was served without vegetables so these had to be ordered as a side. We had another 20 minute wait for dessert which was a RIP-OFF. We each were served half of a frangipane tart which had been hacked into three pieces to disguise its incompleteness; this was accompanied by a scoop of sorbet, a cube of tasteless jelly and some slices of canned peach (for which we were each charged £8) - and this is a restaurant in a "luxury" hotel? I don't know how the chef had the nerve to present it. This simple three course meal kept us in the restaurant for over two hours.
All main courses should be served with vegetables as a balanced and complete meal; charging high prices for a small portion of veg or potatoes is unacceptable. The experience could have been improved by complementary bread rolls and much slicker service.

Compared to other afternoon teas we have had at other hotels this one was a bit disappointing. The best thing was the scones but I am afraid i would not recommend

Restaurant lacked any atmosphere - such a beautiful building it was a shame. Most of the restaurant staff did not understand what was said to them. Another plate was asked for and a menu was bought!
Unfortunately the beef was very chewy too. I was very disappointed as I had booked for my husbands' birthday treat. We will not be returning which is such a shame as I have known of the building for many many years. Feeling disappointed.

Disappointing. I had the Haunch of Venison; which was an overcooked piece of meat wrapped in pastry served with a very thin tasteless jus. And overpriced, at no time was I asked was the meal up to standard. My wife had the Trout, which was excellent.
The tap water was served to us and was always warm.
We did enjoy the desserts.

Beautiful diningroom. Excellent service. Waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. We found the menu a little restrictive as we don't/can't eat such embellished dishes but the food we had was excellent. The venison dish was perfect although more vegetables included in the price would have been preferable.
