The environment was delightful , as were the staff, however the service was slightly slow considering the simplicity of the menu.
I think the kitchen is capable of a better quality of lunchtime experience but was probably catering to families with younger children as it is the summer school holidays .
Overall it was a successful outing for our family of four , ranging in age from !8 up to 88 years .
The garden was a delight and we finished off our lunch by having tea amongst the bees and flowers .
My best suggestion would be to add a simple but sophisticated fish dish to the list of main courses.

We enjoyed the afternoon very much ,visiting the house was amazing...the cream tea was lovely especially the little touch of Happy birthday written in icing on a plate .

It was a very hot day and our table should have been in the conservatory but they kindly said we could go outside under a parasol. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The afternoon tea itself I personally thought was not as good as my previous visit. The scones were not particularly well made and the cakes were almost childlike in the making. Saying that it was all very tasty and we enjoyed the experience. I think I would try out other places for afternoon tea.

Had an excellent lunch, food and service were both good, though we both had the very good Pork belly, one was on the over fatty side. Two mildly negative comments, found the Conservatory restaurant a little on the chilly side and didn't understand why all those having afternoon tea had a nice white linen tablecloth and we didn't.

Pleasant waitress showed us to our seats and arranged for drinks to be served. Good piping hot food including salmon and ceasar salad.

I wanted to treat my partner to a nice meal to thank him for his help in sorting out my car recently. I was hoping for a special evening that would make him feel spoiled. We arrived by taxi at the entrance and there was no one on reception. We wandered around trying to find the restaurant then found an employee sat at a computer in what looked like a towel cupboard and she directed us to the restaurant. Not quite the welcome I was expecting at such a plush hotel.

We each had a cocktail to start which were lovely and ordered a bottle of Giffords Hall Suffolk Bacchus white wine. We both had the grilled octopus followed by the crab linguine and then the cheese board. The grilled octopus was scrummy and the cheese board was wonderful – lots of delicious local cheeses. However, the crab linguine was very disappointing – we could not taste any crab or seafood in the sauce, nor could we find any crab in our bowls. It was like eating pasta covered in plain cream. We did mention it to the senior waiter and he just mumbled something about letting the chef know – not quite the response we were expecting.

Needless to say, the welcome and disappointing main tainted our evening somewhat. We left straight after the cheese board and are unlikely to return despite living locally. Restaurant 1921 in Bury St Edmunds remains our favourite place for a posh meal out!!
