Afternoon tea, lovely selection, very pleasant and attentive staff. Booking was difficult as the main hotel phone was never answered, however online booking was fine. Only disappointment was that in 30 degree heat there wasn't the option of a cooler room and the conservatory was stifling. Why couldn't the (much cooler) main restaurant be laid for afternoon tea?

Nice surroundings, high standard of food, good service, pleasant and helpful staff.
One little niggle was a few flies present so a may of dealing with this would help in the hot weather.

A very mixed dinner experience. Polite and attentive staff. Restaurant not too busy but service very slow. Two simple starters took 25 minutes to arrive. Smoked trout starter was excellent and set the expectation for the rest of the meal; soup starter was good but presentation was poor. Another long wait for mains. Mullet was good but served without potato so these had to be ordered as a side. Calves liver was inedible as it was served so rare it had the consistency of tough jelly - I had not been asked at the time of ordering how I would like it cooked; a replacement was immediately offered - this time I was asked how well done it should be - and I had another wait while it was prepared; the replacement was good and the flavour excellent, however, it was served without vegetables so these had to be ordered as a side. We had another 20 minute wait for dessert which was a RIP-OFF. We each were served half of a frangipane tart which had been hacked into three pieces to disguise its incompleteness; this was accompanied by a scoop of sorbet, a cube of tasteless jelly and some slices of canned peach (for which we were each charged £8) - and this is a restaurant in a "luxury" hotel? I don't know how the chef had the nerve to present it. This simple three course meal kept us in the restaurant for over two hours.
All main courses should be served with vegetables as a balanced and complete meal; charging high prices for a small portion of veg or potatoes is unacceptable. The experience could have been improved by complementary bread rolls and much slicker service.

Compared to other afternoon teas we have had at other hotels this one was a bit disappointing. The best thing was the scones but I am afraid i would not recommend
