The city takes pride in the distinguished Ratsweinkeller Hamburg, in business since 1896. The overall theme is suggested at the entrance, where you'll find a stone statue of Bacchus. The main dining hall has high vaulted ceilings, wood-paneled columns, and large stained-glass windows. The wallet-friendly large portions here make appetizers unnecessary. One excellent dish is the halibut steak in curry sauce. The fresh sole bonne femme is heavenly and served in large portions; the Hamburg crab soup is the best in the city. At the quarter-hour, the chime of the great-grandfather clock resounds throughout the chambers.
