Restaurant description

Situated in a Victorian redbrick building, Michelin-starred Purnell’s restaurant in Birmingham is a chic and contemporary dining space. Seamlessly fusing the heritage of its residence with modern accents in the dining room, the stylish restaurant space is flooded with natural light from the classically-Victorian arched windows.

With the living room restaurant space dedicated to sociable and relaxed fine dining, the Purnell’s menu offers a variety of inventive ‘Brummie tapas’ dishes, ideal for sharing. Sample dishes include spiced potato and lime croquettes with duck egg mayonnaise, and neck of lamb with capers and basil emulsion.

A selection of tasting menus are also available at the West Midlands restaurant, offering dishes such as tail fillet of beef rolled in liquorice charcoal, and waffles with foie gras butter with crispy chicken skin. A classic 3 or 5-course lunch menu offers contemporary British cuisine, such as duck breast with apple and celeriac puree, and roasted plaice with confit tomato and pickled shallots.

Offering informal fine dining and Michelin-starred cuisine, Purnell’s in Birmingham sits 6 minutes’ walk from Snow Hill train station. Diners are required to be of smart casual attire.

Fantastic food and great service. A huge treat, which for me in view of lockdown, was a belated Christmas present from my lovely husband.

What a fabulous experience, the food was out of this world! I can honestly say I’ve never eaten anything like it before. The technique and effort that goes into the food is outstanding! The service was perfect and the atmosphere was cosy, just what we were looking for. A perfect way to celebrate my birthday.

Excellent booking service, organised following new guidelines - Covid - 19, Glynn taking the time himself to talk with customers and photo opportunity. Fav dish includes baked egg and the haddock and egg. Black ore starter lovely tasty touch. Lovely service highly recommended

I visited for lunch with my husband to celebrate our wedding anniversary (and to celebrate lockdown easing!). We were very lucky to be greeted by Glynn at the door who expertly explained the COVID procedures for us! We have visited previously and this experience was just as excellent as I remember it. We opted for the tasting menu with wine flight and it was simply amazing with each dish displaying the individuality and creativity of the chef (if I was to pick a favourite dish though it would be the Birmingham Soup 1793 with marmite butter Mmmmm!).

As previously a great dining experience, made my wife's birthday extra special by a chat with the main man, the Birmingham Soup was a winner for us.
