A selection of tasting menus are also available at the West Midlands restaurant, offering dishes such as tail fillet of beef rolled in liquorice charcoal, and waffles with foie gras butter with crispy chicken skin. A classic 3 or 5-course lunch menu offers contemporary British cuisine, such as duck breast with apple and celeriac puree, and roasted plaice with confit tomato and pickled shallots.

Phenomenal meal. We have eaten here several times, but this was the best. We loved the Autumn Tasting Menu, and the service was great as always.

This was a meal with an old friend in the middle of a busy Congress. We chose the tasting menu. The atmosphere was smart but a little lifeless - it was a Tuesday evening. The food was good but not great in both our opinions although the venison dish and the eggy pudding stood out. Great wine list. Excellent attentive but not obtrusive

All the food was really tasty, and the slow cooked beef the best,

Beautiful 5 course set lunch with extra gifts from the kitchen. Spinal (GM) looked after us with the wine and although the waiting staff were attentive, they were not oppressive. Never new that I could enjoy beetroot so much, but my favourite main was the beef cheek and for dessert the choice buns filled with creme patisserie and banana were divine. Super lazy long lunch in an elegant restaurant. Thanks to the full team at Purnell's.

We both enjoyed our visit to Purnell's. We had the same three dishes off the menu. The first was beetroot based and was outstanding. Probably the best course we have both had in the last five years. We had skate wing as the main course, which was fine but did not stand out for either of us. Finally we had the toffee apple and once again we both thought it was outstanding. We had a glass of the house Gavi & SB from NZ. Both were nice, if not exceptional. Service was good and it was nice to see Mr Purnell in the kitchen with his team. We had to travel 2.5 hours by car and train to get to the restaurant but it was well worth it and we will do so again. Thanks for a good day out.

Absolutely superb - cannot recommend it enough - Go here! Favourite dishes are hard to pick it was all stunning. I do have a soft spot for the beetroot dish though, and the wonderful egg surprise was just as good last night as it was ten years ago when we first tried it.

Great brummie tapas - almost felt like a full tasting menu in a lovely setting. Service was professional but lacked warmth and connection.
