Seamlessly fusing the heritage of its residence with modern accents in the dining room, the stylish restaurant space is flooded with natural light from the classically-Victorian arched windows.

With the living room restaurant space dedicated to sociable and relaxed fine dining, the Purnell’s menu offers a variety of inventive ‘Brummie tapas’ dishes, ideal for sharing. Sample dishes include spiced potato and lime croquettes with duck egg mayonnaise, and neck of lamb with capers and basil emulsion.

A selection of tasting menus are also available at the West Midlands restaurant, offering dishes such as tail fillet of beef rolled in liquorice charcoal, and waffles with foie gras butter with crispy chicken skin. A classic 3 or 5-course lunch menu offers contemporary British cuisine, such as duck breast with apple and celeriac puree, and roasted plaice with confit tomato and pickled shallots.

Offering informal fine dining and Michelin-starred cuisine, Purnell’s in Birmingham sits 6 minutes’ walk from Snow Hill train station. Diners are required to be of smart casual attire.

Took my wife for her birthday, the whole experience was fabulous and she even bumped into Glynn during the meal. The whole menu was amazing. The highlight the cream brûlée in the eggshell - amazing. All the staff very friendly. We will definitely be coming again in the future.

Fantastic...booked lunch for my mom's 75th birthday and the experience was wonderful. Very attentive staff from the moment we arrived. We chose the A La Carte menu and received wonderful little "gifts from the kitchen" before and during the courses. The food was on a different level, textures, tastes and flavours were all superb across all courses. My mom had not been to a "fine-dining" Michelin starred restaurant before and adored the experience. What enhanced this visit was the attitude and quality of the staff..very pleasant, approachable, polite and knowledgeable, nothing was too much trouble and when I asked Sonal about decanting a bottle of Bordeaux, I received an informative "masterclass" on why he was doing, what he was doing. As an added bonus we received a complimentary glass of desert wine and my mother received a second desert from the kitchen with "Happy Birthday" message. We wouldn't hesitate in returning (we have been a couple of times prior to this visit) and would recommend Purnells to anyone, for any occasion. The only slight disappointment was that we chose a, very seldom, day that Glynn wasn't in the kitchen...and my mom was a little sad that she couldn't meet and have a photo and peck on the cheek from Glynn himself....maybe next time!!!

Easy to book. Liked the boutique style decor. We had the 5 course graze menu, including one vegan. Food was excellent. Loved the flavours. Highlights were spiced carrot with lentils & coriander (vegan main) & the slow cooked beef. Beautifully cooked.

Excellent food as you would expect although one can often be a little disappointed at some high-end restaurants but not Purnells; we had the full tasting menu which I would highly recommend. Overall service excellent, staff had a good balance of friendly and professional. We chose not to go for the wine tasting menu which was probably a mistake - we chose from the menu and in honesty, we were a little disappointed with the Poully Fume at £65 and even more disappointed with the Margaux at £120 although the dessert wine was very good. The atmosphere is less stilted than other M starred restaurants. I would definitely recommend for a special occasion or a treat.
