Restaurant description

Situated in a Victorian redbrick building, Michelin-starred Purnell’s restaurant in Birmingham is a chic and contemporary dining space. Seamlessly fusing the heritage of its residence with modern accents in the dining room, the stylish restaurant space is flooded with natural light from the classically-Victorian arched windows.

With the living room restaurant space dedicated to sociable and relaxed fine dining, the Purnell’s menu offers a variety of inventive ‘Brummie tapas’ dishes, ideal for sharing. Sample dishes include spiced potato and lime croquettes with duck egg mayonnaise, and neck of lamb with capers and basil emulsion.

A selection of tasting menus are also available at the West Midlands restaurant, offering dishes such as tail fillet of beef rolled in liquorice charcoal, and waffles with foie gras butter with crispy chicken skin. A classic 3 or 5-course lunch menu offers contemporary British cuisine, such as duck breast with apple and celeriac puree, and roasted plaice with confit tomato and pickled shallots.

Offering informal fine dining and Michelin-starred cuisine, Purnell’s in Birmingham sits 6 minutes’ walk from Snow Hill train station. Diners are required to be of smart casual attire.

Superb food and service. Had the five course lunch. Would definitely go back. Bill came to £118 which included a service charge of 12.5 %. Worth every penny.

Fantastic 3 course lunch meal ( with little added surprise courses in between). Staff very attentive without being OTT!

A different take on food! Every spot of every dish was bursting with flavour. Some interesting ingredients served in an unusual way. This is fine dining however and the portion sizes are miniscule. The pannacotta dessert in particular was super. Be warned that the drinks are way over priced, even water which was charged at £3.80 per bottle which was then subject to 12.5% service charge. A nice experience but only once a year I think.

Excellent meal, did not realise food could taste so good. Friendly atmosphere, and would definitely consider going again. Even Glynn popped out of the kitchen to say hello, that was a pleasant surprise as I thought it would just be one of those places where the chef has put their name to but are to busy elsewhere.

Fab all round, we ate the grazing lunch menu and it was superb. Funny touches, like the surprise little white whatsits that arrived just before the chef's amuse-bouches, which turned out to be....well I won't spoil it for you..just don't pop one in your mouth(like Ray did haha)! From start to finish, really, really excellent food . Service is very professional and friendly, just the right balance. We Loved It. Take your wallet though, folks...it's expensive, but worth it.

As usual the service and food was exquisite with combinations you wouldn't dream of. Traditional taster menu was well thought and well paced for maximum impact.
