Situated in a Victorian redbrick building, Michelin-starred Purnell’s restaurant in Birmingham is a chic and contemporary dining space. Seamlessly fusing the heritage of its residence with modern accents in the dining room, the stylish restaurant space is flooded with natural light from the classically-Victorian arched windows.

With the living room restaurant space dedicated to sociable and relaxed fine dining, the Purnell’s menu offers a variety of inventive ‘Brummie tapas’ dishes, ideal for sharing. Sample dishes include spiced potato and lime croquettes with duck egg mayonnaise, and neck of lamb with capers and basil emulsion.

A selection of tasting menus are also available at the West Midlands restaurant, offering dishes such as tail fillet of beef rolled in liquorice charcoal, and waffles with foie gras butter with crispy chicken skin. A classic 3 or 5-course lunch menu offers contemporary British cuisine, such as duck breast with apple and celeriac puree, and roasted plaice with confit tomato and pickled shallots.

Offering informal fine dining and Michelin-starred cuisine, Purnell’s in Birmingham sits 6 minutes’ walk from Snow Hill train station. Diners are required to be of smart casual attire.

We had wanted to eat at Purnells for a very long time and the other halves 30th was the perfect opportunity. The food was amazing in everyway! My partner is pregnant and they went above and beyond to cater for her as some things on the menu she could not eat, the replacement dishes were equally as delicious. Every course was exceptional in presentation, taste and inventiveness. The staff were excellent and extremely friendly, not “stiff” like at some other top restaurants we have eaten at. I would highly recommend Purnells to everyone!

It is the first time we have eaten in the Living Room because we usually use the Dining Room but I must say we really did enjoy the menu. My husband had the wine to go with the meal which he really enjoyed but my favourite course was the beetroot!! Purnell always finds something amazing to do with beetroot and this did not let him down. Another amazing experience and we cannot wait until July for our next visit

Service was impeccable, and the food was sensational.
So many unusual and theatrical elements come together perfectly to bring a new meaning to the term "Fine Dining".
The most memorable being the egg white that is not egg white in the Haddock and Eggs, and the pan fried pigeon breast main being to absolutely die for.
Meal was for daughters 18th birthday, and was delighted that not only did we get a copy of the menu signed by Glynn Purnell, but he took the time to personally come and wish my daughter "Happy Birthday", and chat to us all.
It was wonderful to learn how various elements of the dishes were created explained by the master himself.
Glynn is an exceptionally charming person, and, for the time he spent with us put us above all of the other guests vying for his attention.

we had the 5 course lunch menu and were blown away by the subtlety of the flavour combinations alongside immaculate presentation. Wine list is a little pricey but we found a high quality Mendoza for a reasonable price. Staff were superb, knowledgable and friendly.

This was a delightful meal of real quality and thought, executed extremely well.

We had the Winter tasting menu - 9 courses of excellent food. Great takes on some classic starters - chips and dips, cheese & pineapple, mushrooms on toast were all superb. Next the Jerusalem artichoke was a great earthy flavour. Fish and beef were up to a great standard, and the 3 puddings were amazing. My favourites were probably the mushrooms on toast, the stone bass, and the 10/10/10 rhubarb & custard. The (9) wine flight was also superb with thoughtful choices - but keep drinking the water! My partner had 3 wines which she very much enjoyed too. Friendly attentive service as would be expected at this level, with a certain amount of theatre. Thoroughly recommended.

Winter tasting menu was an experience worth waiting to celebrate birthdays. Every course was a delight always brought a smile and intrigue. The charcoal and black mini balls had us all guessing lovely. It came to crescendo with the best sea bass I’ve ever tasted followed by gradual drift into contentment eating a sweeter dish reminding me of all the pigeons in my garden that I’ve fed best quality sunflower hearts to. A lovely drift to puddings mango sorbet the famous bacon and egg (brûlée) waited years to try and it was worth it. Chocolate to finish wonderful. What about wines well the sommelier was very understanding his recommendations to suit my budget were perfect and it was great not to be put in my place and I was great full for that. The read accompanying the lunch was unforgettable. The staff were funny attentive not stuffy and made our lunch truly one to remember and all my party thank Purnells for that. Definitely be back lunch soon
