Really comfortable and welcoming restaurant, with good service. Best dish - the venison, closely followed by the custard egg.

Situated in a Victorian redbrick building, Michelin-starred Purnell’s restaurant in Birmingham is a chic and contemporary dining space. Seamlessly fusing the heritage of its residence with modern accents in the dining room, the stylish restaurant space is flooded with natural light from the classically-Victorian arched windows.

With the living room restaurant space dedicated to sociable and relaxed fine dining, the Purnell’s menu offers a variety of inventive ‘Brummie tapas’ dishes, ideal for sharing. Sample dishes include spiced potato and lime croquettes with duck egg mayonnaise, and neck of lamb with capers and basil emulsion.

A selection of tasting menus are also available at the West Midlands restaurant, offering dishes such as tail fillet of beef rolled in liquorice charcoal, and waffles with foie gras butter with crispy chicken skin. A classic 3 or 5-course lunch menu offers contemporary British cuisine, such as duck breast with apple and celeriac puree, and roasted plaice with confit tomato and pickled shallots.

Offering informal fine dining and Michelin-starred cuisine, Purnell’s in Birmingham sits 6 minutes’ walk from Snow Hill train station. Diners are required to be of smart casual attire.

This visit was a present for my husband and one he said he was really pleased with. We had a wonderful dining experience. From entering the restaurant to leaving - the staff were very friendly and made us feel comfortable. Each dish was delicious and we savoured every mouthful - together with the wine flight that supported these. Our only comment was in regard to desert. Whilst it was delicious - it was definitely not the bread and butter pudding stated on the menu. It was an orange and chocolate tart - we say this as it had a pastry base a layer of white chocolate and was served with rum ice cream (none of which as described on the menu but just as good).

Super lunchtime experience. Last table of the sitting but entirely unhurried service. Attentive and knowledgeable staff. Friendly and unpretentious.

This was our first time at Purnell's but is definitely not going to be our last. We attended the restaurant for a 1 pm meal on a cold Wednesday afternoon to be greeted in a friendly polite and professional manner. We were offered the opportunity of pre-lunch drinks but decided on going straight through. Service was attentive and friendly with all the staff delivering the level of attention you would like. We chose the 5 course lunch menu and were staggered by the variety and sheer luxury of every course, and the wonderful amuse bouche served. Starters were simply divine with textures and flavours to die for. The 2 main courses ( Cod and Beef ) were out of this world followed by a beautiful dessert. My wife received a birthday treat at the end of the meal which was a lovely touch. Throughout our meal the waiters were brilliant all adding to the experience. We went for a bottle of Pinot throughout the meal, which was so nice we took another away with us. I simply cant fault it. Relaxing, professional stunning food, great decor and brilliant service. The only shame is we cant attend as often as we'd like, but we will be back to sample the taster menu in the near future. Just book it you wont be disappointed.

Right from the start to end we were thoroughly looked after by the exceptional staff going over and above to make sure our experience was amazing and memorable.
My favourite dish, well that's difficult, the edible charcoal and canary potatoes were a magical start to the meal.
The very best moment, however, was when Glynn came out of the kitchen and spoke to us. Such a lovely, or should I say, Yummy Brummy! exactly how I expected him to be, really engaged with his customers and loving the feedback.

Excellent experience. Very attentive staff, pleasant and you weren’t rushed. The lunch menu offered enough choices. As one would expect some of the food offered surprises to the palate. All good ones I would add. Well worth a visit.
