In a majestic building steeped in literary history, The Printing Press serves up the best of the Scottish larder, on Edinburgh’s well-heeled George Street. The varied menu is available all day, with a late-night bar serving drinks and bar bites until the early hours.

Hand-picking produce from some of Scotland’s finest suppliers, The Printing Press menu features rustic classics including smoked haggis, puréed neeps and crispy potato, as well as craft ale-battered day boat fish and chips, along with modern Scottish cooking such as slow-braised Huntingdon Farm lamb breast with celeriac gratin, charred hispi cabbage and gremolata. A range of steak cuts, from grass-fed Tweed Valley Scotch beef, aged for a minimum of 28 days sizzle on the josper grill, all served with chips and a variety of sauces.

Be tempted by classic and contemporary desserts including pumpkin cheesecake with rum and raisin ice cream, or baked Alaska with chocolate ice cream. A children’s menu is also available at The Printing Press in Edinburgh.

Acclaimed chef Colin Fleming heads the kitchen at The Printing Press, bringing a wealth of expertise honed at some of Scotland’s best restaurants. Edinburgh Waverley Station is just a 7-minute walk away.

We had a very enjoyable meal. The food was excellent, particularly the Duck Confit and the vegetarian main of Orzo, with Broccoli, peas, pesto and a beautiful smoked goats cheese. Delicious. Only slight negative was the slow service - not enough staff and no real apology for a long wait between courses. However, great value for 2 courses plus prosecco for £15 during the Edinburgh festival.

WE HAD A VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE AN EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND CHARMING WAITER WHO WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO MAKE US FEEL AT HOME AND TO SERVE US VERY QUICKLY AS WE HAD A CONCERT TO ATTEND AFTERWARDS. THE FOOD WAS VERY WELL PRESENTED , A GENEROUS PORTION WAS SERVED AND WAS VERY APPETISING. THE DINING ROOM WAS AIRY, FULL OF SUNSHINE AND THE TABLES WERE NOT CROWDED SO IT WAS EASY TO SPEAK AND BE HEARD. IN CONCLUSION A HAVEN OF PEACE IN A CROWDED GEORGE STREET. WE WILL RETURN SOON THANK YOU.

We had a good table and the restaurant very smart. The short lunch menu appealed to me however on arrival we were told the fish dish for starter and main were not available. When I showed my disappointment the waitress asked the chef and I was offered a different fish from the a la carte menu served with the original way. We were a group of four and all decided on the main and dessert. Everyone enjoyed their food and the glass of fizz included was a real bonus. The service was excellent apart from one thing, our teas / coffees were served before the dessert so cool by the time ready to drink.

First visit. Our waiter was lovely. The food, I had the mackerel which was ok but the potatos were undercooked. We ordered a bottle of red wine but we were optimistic that we would finish bottle before we had to leave. Edinburgh festival time and we had a show booked. There was more than half a bottle of wine left and we asked if we could take it with us. The answer was an emphatic NO! Company policy would no allow unless we were staying in the hotel! Needless to say I was not impressed. I did not make a fuss but after some time the lady in charge decided to only charge us with two glasses (large). I wonder what happened to the wine we did not drink. Was it then sold on in single glass charge? Personally I will not be back at the Printing Press. On reflection we maybe should have allowed more time for our meal and maybe not ordered a full bottle!

Really smart and stylish place, friendly staff - we had the express menu and the food was fine but not out of this world - slightly disappointed with the cheese board

We chose this as a pre-theatre option as the menu had plenty choice for all, including vegetarian.
