Restaurant description

In a majestic building steeped in literary history, The Printing Press serves up the best of the Scottish larder, on Edinburgh’s well-heeled George Street. The varied menu is available all day, with a late-night bar serving drinks and bar bites until the early hours.

Hand-picking produce from some of Scotland’s finest suppliers, The Printing Press menu features rustic classics including smoked haggis, puréed neeps and crispy potato, as well as craft ale-battered day boat fish and chips, along with modern Scottish cooking such as slow-braised Huntingdon Farm lamb breast with celeriac gratin, charred hispi cabbage and gremolata. A range of steak cuts, from grass-fed Tweed Valley Scotch beef, aged for a minimum of 28 days sizzle on the josper grill, all served with chips and a variety of sauces.

Be tempted by classic and contemporary desserts including pumpkin cheesecake with rum and raisin ice cream, or baked Alaska with chocolate ice cream. A children’s menu is also available at The Printing Press in Edinburgh.

Acclaimed chef Colin Fleming heads the kitchen at The Printing Press, bringing a wealth of expertise honed at some of Scotland’s best restaurants. Edinburgh Waverley Station is just a 7-minute walk away.

Booking was straightforward. Service was fine if a bit slow. Food was good and reasonable value for location. The music was much too loud and even when adjusted by the helpful staff member still made conversation difficult.

Lovely food, lovely waitress. Had asked in advance for a quiet table if possible and this was arranged.

Restaurant itself was great. Lovely decor and ambiance. Menu very limited which would have been alright of the small.selecrion of food they did have was done well. Food tastes very mediocre and varied in quality of presentation. One of the orders was a steak. The meat quality was poor and it was not cooked properly. The dessert was just disappointingly disgusting. Waiter was very young, inexperienced, lacked confidence and ability to look after us. The restaurant has great potential, just needs a little shake up
