We visited on Sunday, so we had the roast, we were taken straight to our table, no waiting! We didn't want the vegetables that came with it but could choose peas instead. Good friendly service.

The 5&6 year olds' portions were good. I felt that our adult portions were small. We go to your 5 Bridges Carvery in Queenborough which is excellent. Service was good with a lovely waitress.

Going downhill since Paul Stewart left . On 21/7 i had carrots with more crunch than a bag of crisps . 28/7 i had dirty cutlery i had to return , luke warm gravy , a smaller portion , chips sent despite ordering new potatoes and a table so sticky i could not get the serviette off of it

No garlic chips. No bottled beer of my choice. Very slow service although very friendly. Nice surroundings. Vegan son would have gone hungry if he had been there.

No jacket potatoes at noon yesterday.
Waited 35 minutes for food. Veg pie cold in the middle. It was appalling.
Been loads of time before had problems a couple of times now.
    Won't go again.

It was not the worst dining experience I've ever had but neither was it the best. The staff were friendly and smart but the service was a bit slow and they had run out of sweet potato fries, (which I love), and orange juice; which my mother and I wanted! Food was ok but very plain and some of it lacked flavour. Also they recognise in their allergy info that, like me, people are intolerant to dairy, yet they do not provide a single dessert that we can eat? A simple sorbet would have done. Definitely had better experiences elsewhere.

I booked this restaurant for my boss and her guest as it is the nearest decent eatery near our offices. My boss has used Poppy Fields on quite a number of occasions but although she was happy about the food she was very disappointed when ordering drinks. Her guest wanted a soda and lime and was told they didn't have any so she ordered two orange and lemonades. They then wanted to finish off the meal with a coffee only to be told that the machine had broken and they couldn't serve it! If my boss's guest was an internal person it wouldn't really have mattered as much but as this was an external professional, she felt rather embarrassed. Needless to say she has now asked me to find an alternative venue for such meetings. It is a shame as a lot of us have our occasional office lunches there and we have never been disappointed before.
