Celebrity Chef E.A Cisse opened Ponty Bistro Café and Bar after working as a chef for 15 years for some of the most renowned restaurants in Manhattan. Cisse brings his native country dishes to the East Village, offering such fare as five spices lamb shank with couscous and onion sauce, whole fish braised slowly with onions and plantains, flounder with baby bok choy, fingerling potato, lemon caper sauce and hanger steak with pommes maison and shallotte red wine sauce. Another signature dish is the grilled sirloin steak, marinated with Senegalese spices and au poivre sauce. Ponty's owners are proud of their cuisine, and just as proud of their new concept - the low impact restaurant. Ponty uses only recycled paper products, all cans and bottles are recycled, and much of the food comes from organic local farms.
