Very enjoyable evening. Great food. Despite the restaurant being busy, the staff were attentive and friendly, and the service was excellent.

From acclaimed restaurateur Russell Norman, POLPO Smithfield brings Italian small plates to London’s iconic Smithfield Market. Flavour-packed creations are served in a modest setting with exposed brickwork and tin ceilings.

Reminiscent of Venice’s charming backstreet restaurants, POLPO specialises in Venetian small plates and spritz. Hand-rolled meatballs, freshly-stretched pizzettes and fresh colourful salads head up the menu. The main menu varies with the seasons and favourite creations include cuttlefish & squid ink risotto with gremolata, roast stuffed pork, lentils & radicchio and crab & chilli linguine. For dessert, choose from a variety of classics, such as tiramisu or Venetian ricotta doughnuts with cinnamon sugar.

Offering laidback Venetian-style drinking and dining, find POLPO Smithfield a 2-minute walk from Farringdon Rail Station.

some dishes a little small in size eg meatballs. Variation in quality - chilli prawns and polenta excellent, meatballs good, salads a little lacking in flavour

Food was really flavoursome and tasty, vegetarian choices were numerous (which helped as we had 2 vegetarians!)

Food great, service great - too small tables for all the dishes and it is tapas........

Superb concept, great food, swift service, cool interior... only downside was the music turned up a bit too loud

Food was great, as usual. Service was slow in delivering our drinks and taking our order. The food was also very slow to come out once we ordered with long gaps. We were there for a relaxed meal so wasn't a big deal today but would have been on other occasions.

The pork and fennel meatballs were delicious. The marinated octopus was done perfectly - really tender.

Really tasty and well cooked food! We had an early-ish Saturday lunch and the restaurant was relatively quiet. We ordered nine plates between the four of us (two adults and two children) obviously the wonderful meatballs but found the gnocchi, belly pork and braised scallops delicious too. It was a great opportunity to share and try slightly new things, we all tucked in and ended the meal with each of us proclaiming a different favourite dish!
